Dr. Julie Wesp, MD

I met Dr. Wesp a few years ago when I was very fortunate to go from Urgent Care to a quickly-scheduled appointment in her office. I was in true need and she and her wonderful staff took care of me. This was the beginning of a long-term care situation; many appointments, exams and surgeries later and I cannot begin to express how grateful I am to have found Dr. Wesp. She is very skilled, compassionate, measured and kind. My experience of her is that she has gone above and beyond to care for me, guide my care and help me heal. She always heard my questions and got me in to see her when I had real concerns. I highly recommend Dr. Wesp. Anyone would be fortunate to be under her care.

Even before hearing from me in person about the medical issue and the significant pain I was experiencing, it was obvious during the visit that Dr. Wesp had already decided beforehand that she was not going to perform surgery on me or even present it as an option. I asked her several questions regarding my condition many of the answers to which were 'I don't know.' Her advice was to keep doing the home treatments even though I explained that it wasn’t working and I was in pain. My questions were not to press the surgery option but to better understand my medical condition and find possible solutions since she decided that surgery wasn't an option. At the end of the visit she made a rude comment to the effect that I wasn't going to convince her to do something she wasn't going to do. This sort of comment is unkind not worthy of a health care professional. I do not recommend her. I'll seek health care elsewhere with a caring, informed and sympathetic surgeon.

Dr. Wesp’s manner was cold and distant during my consultation with her for hemorrhoid surgery. At the consult, she let me know that she in incapable of performing state if the art hemorrhoid surgeries and suggested that I visit a surgeon with more specialized expertise. Rather than pursuing surgical options, I opted to do my best to manage my condition. Now, about 18 months later I can no longer manage the hemorrhoids myself and have determined that I need surgery. Unfortunately, Dr. Wesp refuses to provide me with a necessary referral. I have explained to her - via message - that my hemorrhoids have worsened and that I need to pursue surgical options. She remains unmoved and uncooperative. She insists that I go back to Square One with a primary care physician for a hemorrhoid examination, and obtain the referral from him. I am entirely dismayed by the lack of care and compassion I received from Dr. Wesp. Unfortunately, this seems like par for the course at Christus.

Dr. Wesp is rude, unprofessional and disrespectful. She body shamed me and refused to listen to my husband and I and instead spoke in a condescending manner, telling me that I needed to walk or swim, lose ten pounds and then come back to see her. She wouldn’t listen to me when I told her that I was unstable on my feet and experienced chronic dizziness. I would not recommend that she perform surgery on any living thing. Her behavior goes against the oath she took to do no harm. She also intimated that my Hispanic heritage was a contributing factor in my ability to lose weight.

I saw Dr. Wesp for a 2nd opinion regarding an Esophageal Hiatal Hernia and whether I needed surgery. She reviewed my chart and diagnostic tests before meeting with me.Based on that information, as well as some background that I provided, she advised against surgery and shared her rationale. I trust her opinion because she was referred by a PA who I respect and because her medical education included Foregut Surgery at Chapel Hill.

My experience: I was wrongly charged $365 for a short (less than 10 minutes) consultation with Dr. Wesp on whether she would be available to do a surgery later. At the beginning of the visit, I was told that my insurance covered it, then the office manager came out as I was leaving and apologized saying they’d made a mistake. To this day, they’ve failed to correct their error. This is a medical practice riddled with greed and incompetence.

I would not recommend Dr. Wesp to anyone needing surgery. She and her PA have horrible bedside manner. She is condescending and her work isn't the best. After the surgery she did on me failed less than six months later, she wanted to blame me. She was close to an hour late to my appointment then had nothing but excuses to explain away her failure.

I went in the see Dr. Wesp for a possible Hernia problem. Dr. Wesp found I did not need the surgery. She was very professional and honest. I have a sleep apnea problem and Dr. Wesp gave me information that might be of help to me with Sleep apnea. If I needed any surgery, I would request Dr. Wesp to do that surgery for me.

Dr. Wesp took the time to explain to me anything I didn't understand, and expertly answered all my questions. Dr. Wesp was extremely knowledgeable and patient.
