Dr. Karen Hansen, MD

Complete misdiagnosis. Told me I had gout, disagreed with information in my past history with this particular office. After giving her all my symptoms, she never did any blood work, or x-rays. Told me my hips were mechanical, and basically there was nothing wrong with me. Told me several times that she had been doing this for 25 years. Would never recommend her or go back to her. United Health should not have her be one of their approved providers.

This was by far the worst doctor visit I’ve ever had. From the very beginning of my appointment, I was interrupted and not able to speak or explain my symptoms. I was not able to tell her what I was experiencing. She asked questions using medical terms I had no idea what they meant. She dismissed all of problems immediately. At the end of my appointment I told her I had a list of symptoms and she said “we discussed some of them and found that they are not related to anything I treat” She also said her speciality doesn’t treat what she quickly diagnosed me with yet when I got a second opinion that doctor said they very much so treat that disease. I do not recommend Dr Hansen to anyone unless you want to feel like less of a person leaving her office. Intelligence does not trump being a good, compassion human.

She contradicted herself from appointment to appointment and sometimes wrong about the physiology of certain bodily functions. When revealing her information at other doctor appointments their comments too often were “that’s not how this particular function works.” They could see her notes and didn’t have to completely rely on my word. Then they would have to take the time to explain why this is incorrect eating into my appointment time with them. After hearing similar comments from other doctors and a small handful of people I know who had either seen her or their loved ones did, I lost faith that she actually knew what she was doing. Bedside manner was sometimes sweet, and other times not, making some appointments difficult. My mental health was suffering from her inconsistency, and well, that box of chocolates quote by Forrest Gump applies here. I’m very happy with a new doctor. Life is sane again.

Dr. Hansen did an excellent job of helping me understand my test results and putting them in perspective. She was very thorough; explained my current status, steps to prevent progression and next steps for monitoring and further screening. She had already reviewed my general health, lab results and current medications and added that to the context of my current issue. I feel I got a comprehensive and holistic exam. I had questions ready to go and she had actually answered all of my questions by the end of the visit. Recommend her highly!

Dr Hansen is neither compassionate nor understanding. Her documentation of my symptoms was inaccurate from day 1. When asked to correct the notes she literally laughed at me. She is condescending, disrespectful, and rude. I have filed complaints with the state and with her clinic. I was told by her clinic that she has been spoken with on multiple occasions about her "lack of bedside manner."

I had the most wonderful experience with Dr. Hansen, she is kind and compassionate. I have not met a more detailed doctor.
