Awesome Surgeon
Both smart and compassionate, Dr Schweitzer explained all options to me before finalizing a treatment plan, and then performed dual toe fusion and anterior tibialis tendon rupture repair surgery on me in early December 23'. Recovery was so smooth that I was walking and playing leisurely pickleball at 6-weeks post-op. After six more weeks of gradually increasing activity, my foot feels Great! Thank you Dr. Karl.

I have seen this doctor as a referral and working with home about my care for three years.. I am very happy. He listens and believes what I am saying. He is procedural and I like that. Happy to have him working on my foot fusions. Honestly, don’t understand any complaints. He is personable, funny, and pays attention to my needs. I am looking for someone very qualified, he is, and listens to me.

Waste of time
This doctor was a waste of my time. He is not knowledgeable enough. He lacks genuine passion, and patient care and concern, so he just passes the buck, or he gives Convenient solutions, But they are not convenient for the patient only for him And he moves on to the next victim.

I was injured at work this past year and was referred out to this doctor. Dr. Schweitzer Jr., was very attentive to how important my job is and what I was expecting to be able to do when I got back to work after surgery. If there were any concernes I had, he had no issue with explaining. He did assessments in the room and was able to answer questions I had. He gave a listen to the prior interventions I had done before making the decision to go forward with surgery. My recovery has been well and I think it's fair to say I owe it to his keen techniques in the operating room. Michelle Zaragosa

Horribly arrogant and condescending. He should have his license revoked. He saw me once, ordered no follow up tests, didn't even examine me while pushing HARD for me to have a surgery where they remove part of a bone. The entire conversation was riddled with mind-boggling rudeness. One of my favorites was when I asked if I had the surgery how long I should expect to not be able to walk or drive to which he replied "I don't know, I'm not the DMV; we don't clear people to drive." !?????? Also, my feet were cold and I went to slip my shoes back on which took all of three seconds - he asked if he could please have my full attention and he would appreciate if I were not distracted. This man is so rude. I wish I had recorded the conversation. I feel sorry for his wife.

To put it as tactfully as possible, be aware that when you have foot surgery you may be trading one problem for another. In other words, the cure for one problem (e.g.,pain) may be the cause of another (e.g., deformity), which may be the more serious one in the long term. Be sure to ask Dr. Schweitzer about any negative consequences of the surgery and don't uncritically accept any sunny, glib responses.

I had a problem with ankle pain after a hike. This is the same ankle where I had ganglion cyst several years ago that was only diagnosed after extensive testing. I made the appointment and did the RICE therapy. After 3 - 4 days the pain was gone. I went to my appointment with Dr. Schweitzer to see if my cyst problem would recur. The office visit started with nurse reviewing my medical history. Then a resident came in to ask specifics of the injury and did a preliminary exam. I had a few x-rays. Then the doctor came in discussed the preliminary x-rays results and a thorough exam of my foot and ankle. He explained about how cysts form and how they sometimes resolve themselves. We talked about a course of action and he gave me some exercises to do at home. I was very impressed and satisfied with Dr. Schweitzer and his whole team.

As others have noted, he is not a great physician: doesn't listen to patients, is condescending and dismissive of their concerns. These concerns date back to 2017. I had the same experience as others have shared. He was extremely condescending and rude. I asked him if PT would address instability of my ankle. He looked pissed, raised his eyebrows, breathed deeply and said, "I can't predict the future. That's why I'm telling you to go to PT to find out." The problem with this logic is, I assumed based on my symptoms and X-rays, and his past clinical experience, he would have some idea of the range of possible clinical outcomes. For example, has any prior patient with similar age/weight demographics and similar instability issues ever had the instability resolved by PT? If yes, then he should say, "yes, that has happened to patients before" or "that has not happened for any of my patients so I do not think that would happen for you." Instead, a snarky, exasperated answer.

Horrible physician. He missed a fracture of my heel bone for over a month and had me walking/limping on it. He thought I was "overreacting" until I had an MRI ordered. He needs to go back to medical school and learn a few things, including listening to his patients. I would never recommend him.

Don't let his youthful appearance fool you. Dr. Schweizer is as knowledgeable and caring as they come. I had to lose my leg and he took the time to discuss my options and the possible outcomes, not just post-surgery but lifetime. He made sure I was ready and prepared and sure I was making the right decision. I'm sure my excellent recovery is due to his skill in the operating room as well as bedside. Mike Gurkin
