Nightmare!
I wish that I could give him NO stars. Horrible experience! Incomprehensible that a doctor can give such poor health care. He was the doctor the hospital recommended and the discomfort from my condition caused me to seek relieve instead of investigating. Big mistake!! He didn't listen, didn't provide options, and certainly didn't answer my questions honestly. He made decisions that resulted in multiple procedures, emergency room visits, pain, and major impacts on my lifestyle. I would NEVER recommend him.

Run don’t walk
Run don’t walk away from Dr Essig. I’m a veteran and went to Dr. Essig to keep from driving the distance to Tampa for care. My visit with the doctor lasted about 5 minutes and the only option he presented was an outdated and painful biopsy procedure. After seeking a second option I found out that an MRI should be done prior to a biopsy and if a biopsy is needed sudation is now part of the procedure. Not just numbing the area as Dr. Essig was going to do. In my option it's about the bottom dollar for this doctor or he has not kept up to date on the new methods of care.

Horrific
Horrific. Cystoscope without lidocaine. Total disaster messed my husband up for MONTHS. His nurse was also totally horrific could care less about his pain during procedure. AS THOUGH SHE HAD A CLUE

Do not recommend this urologist
He does not care about his patients at all. The office is incompetent and extremely rude. All Dr. Essig cares about is dollar signs.

Complete waste of time. I had 4 appointments total with Dr Essig. Well. One time I had to drive all the way to the office just to get a bladder scan to go over it the following week. Any time I needed urine checked or anything they forced me to go to the ER. Also, when I did see Dr Essig, it was over an hour after my appointment was started because the office schedules patients when Dr Essig comes in whenever he sees fit that day. My appointment was at 9 AM yet I wasn't seen until 9:45-10. All he does is talk to himself into a talk to text microphone. Barely dorks to you. But all my care and medication came from only the hospital. Once my insurance activated I got a second opinion at USF. In one appointment I got my urine checked, a bladder scan, they scheduled me for ultrasound themselves that day instead of making me find someone myself. And, my new Dr got me into physical therapy. Something I DESPERATELY need now. I assure you Essig would not have done that.

I thought Dr Essig was an excellent urologist. However, His support staff leaves something to be desired. They don't return phone calls and don't communicate very well.

Disappointed patient – Jun 30, 2021

Does not communicate well. Must ask him a point blank question to get any answer regarding possible causes or solutions to your problem. I went to him for three weeks with no solution to getting my catheter removed after a hospital stay, which resulted in two more visits to the ER. On my last visit he scheduled my next appointment one month later for a test because he was going on vacation. Went to another local urologist the following week for a second opinion and he had be taken care of in 4 days. I gave him one star because there is nothing lower.

Rather talk to his computer than the patient. Staff doesn't contact you when your appointment is changed or the office is moved. You find out when you get there by rude office staff or a note on the door. He didn't inform us of all the options with an operation and didn't do what was decided.
