Patient, caring and clealy eplains things
I've seen Dr. Newkirk several times concerning a neck mass. Dr. Newkirk took his time reviewing an outside scan and report, and then recommended a further test in anticipation of surgery. I found him to be caring. He explained everything in easy to understand terms. He took his time and always asked at the end of my visits if I had any additional questions. His assistant was a very reassuring and the surgical scheduler was efficient. The office was busy but acceptable. My medical situation is complicated with multiple medical conditions, significant allergies, and medical device incompatibilities. This did cause a delay in getting one of my tests. I think the practice should have flagged it early on, but it was finally resolved. Dr. Newkirk also cleaned out my ears, one which was pretty well impacted. I had to laugh as he repeatedly said, "I'm going to pull on your ear ... you're going to hear a gushing sound ..." He must be great with children! My surgery has been scheduled.

Just simply uninterested.
I went to see doctor Newkirk for a sinus issue. He walked into the room, never even acknowledged that I was there, shuffled through papers for a few minutes and then asked me why I was there. I explained what my problem was and without even coming anywhere near me he said OK we need a test. He ordered the test and out of the room he went. I went back for a follow up and was met with the same cold uninterested treatment. Told me the test results said the test results showed nothing, although there was something there. I asked him a few questions about it and he basically said there's really nothing else I can do for you. And that was it picked up his papers and out the door he went.

Concern for his patients
I've seen Dr. Newkirk twice. The first time having an MRI for a right ear concern. He told me that the issue would resolve itself and six months later it was gone. Recently, I saw him on an emergency basis for my left ear. I had immediate hearing loss and he diagnosed me, had me get a hearing test, and then put me on a high dose of prednisone. He explained that the prednisone should help restore the hearing to where it was (albeit there was some loss before this emergency) as the nerve could be helped with the dosage. Fortunately the dosage helped and the hearing was back to where it was before the emergency. He needed the high dosage as I had a window of 24-48 hours to get the ear nerve to work and that was exactly what happened. I'll see him again in six months for another hearing test and consultation. His PA is also kind, like he is, and concerned for his patients. Dr. Newkirk is a true professional as he listens to them and with his vast experience helps them.

Mr. Newkirk is not concerned.
Mr Newkirk seems to be annoyed with his job or just me even though ive never met him before. He barely looked my direction while talking to me. The interaction was about 5-10 minutes and he gave me zero answers. The guy does not care about you, just his paycheck.

First Visit/Very comfortable
First visit with Dr Newkirk. I have a mass in my parotid gland. The exceptional reviews have given me confidence in going forward with the removal of the mass. The one concern for me was the 1% chance of total facial paralysis. The mass is growing and causing pain more frequently so leaving it alone isn’t an option any longer. My visit today went really well despite how busy they were. The front desk worked quickly and efficiently and were very friendly. Dr Newkirks assistant was so nice and non judgmental when I shared the medications I was on. It’s a bit personal but she was so kind and it confirmed for me that I was in the right place and in good hands. I want to thank everyone for taking the time to leave reviews. They really help significantly when you need to make an important decision especially about surgery. I will follow up after the surgery and I have every confidence it will go perfectly.

I consider Dr Newkirk one of the best doctors around, and I've see a few! First, he is very unassuming and is inquisitive about my situation and my attitude toward it. Second, his habit is to go thoroughly over the puts and takes of a particular surgery in order for the patient to have complete information. He also listens, and that's important. In summary, and in my opinion, Dr Newkirk sets the standard!

Dr. Newkirk seems like an excellent clinician. He is a careful doctor, but not an alarmist, and he put my mind at ease about the open questions surrounding my recent thyroid and lymph node ultrasound reports. He reviewed my medical history and test results carefully and mapped out my options in a clear, logical, and succinct manner. He was attentive and caring, and never made me feel rushed. He also has a good sense of humor. I feel confident with his care. Professional and pleasant staff, too.

Dr. Newkirk relates to his patient, makes them feel comfortable, and discusses an individual problem on a level where we could understand the diagnosis and all the options. We never felt rushed and feel confident in following his recommendations. It is obvious he has been very well trained in his field.

I saw Dr. Newkirk for 5 year for tracheotomy care when he was at Georgetown. He was ranked by US New as one of the best ENTs nationally, not just regionally. Dr. Newkirk saw me through some extremely difficult times where I didn't know what the future held. I see a lot of doctors, but for several years, I felt Dr. Newkirk was the one who cared about all of my problems the most. He got me to a better pulmonologist in a practice where doctors were territorial about patient. Sad he moved to NJ.

I saw this doctor for tonsil stones and possible strep. He removed one of the numerous stones and told me to do the rest at home. I am not comfortable sticking objects into my throat to touch my own tonsils. I was unable to do this. I made another appointment for the next day for him to remove them. I was told to gargle. I wanted to discuss surgery with him and when I expressed concern he handed me a pamphlet and sent me on my way. Total contact time 10 minutes.
