I was a patient of Dr. Onishi at UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex 3 years ago. He did PRP and Prolotherapy for my hip and shoulder. I was able to heal and play sports such as golf and swimming without pain. He is one of the best sports medicine doctors and his kindness and humility are gifts.

Plantar Fasciitis
Following exam I was scheduled three weeks out for a procedure to relieve plantar fasciitis. Three days before the procedure his office called me, cancelled the procedure and said he was no longer practicing at UPMC and they could not tell me where I could find him.

Dr Onishi helped me overcome major knee pain and other issues WITHOUT surgery or injections. His course of action will give me many more years before knee replacement might be necessary. I race triathlon several times a year and I’ve seen the greatest improvements in my performance since I started almost 2 decades ago. Love his humor and his careful way to explain my medical condition in layman’s terms. Thanks Dr Onishi for caring so much for the patients you treat!

Dr Onishi is a joke-deserves a zero.
Doctor Onishi came strolling into my appointment 1 1/2 hours late with 4 students in tow, which was his priority - introducing them. After performing my ultrasound ( which was negative ) I PLEADED with him to help me find the answer to my chronic pain . He told me he “ trained at the Mayo Clinic and loves hard cases “ and that he would “ figure it out”. After he received my co- pay and the money to do his ultrasound, he wanted nothing to do with me and told me to go back to my PCP. Right.. that’s why they sent me to a specialist .. to figure out my chronic pain. Typical can’t think outside of the box doctor and this one is a joke . Don’t waste your time .. Mayo Clinic trained,, whatever.. means nothing . . If your problem doesn’t slap him in the face , could care less. Supposed to be the best.. I think not .

Well worth the wait
I have travelled out of state to see Dr. Onishi. He is known as an expert in tendon injuries. He has helped me on two occasions. Each time I have visited him, it meant over 5 hours of travel one way for me, but each time, he was able to help me with my injuries to put me back on the start line of my races. His bedside manner is fantastic and he always puts me at ease if a procedure is needed with his humors and clear explanations. He may run late but this is assuring, as this means he is taking time he needs to help other patients in need. Dr. Onishi is the best, as he was voted by his patients to provide best patient experience amongst all UPMC doctors in his specialty.
