He was extremely dismissive and made me feel crazy for my throat issue (saying it is all in my head). Couldn’t have been more disappointed with this visit. I am surprised he hasn’t, by this point, found a better way to communicate with patients.

Dr Duyka is not compassionate or caring
I saw Dr Duyka for post-covid anosmia He was curt, rushed and dismissive of my complaints. He spent all of five minutes doing a cursory history and physical and failed to look me in the eye. He literally said “sorry to break your heart” and told me there was nothing he could do for me. I realize my problem is I difficult to treat and that there may be nothing more to do than wait. But I went to see him expecting to be heard sympathetically and to discuss risks and benefits of possible treatment options. I got neither an ounce of sympathy nor any discussion. He is a poor excuse for a physician.

Abrasive and dismissive
While he ultimately seemed knowledgeable, his attitude got in the way of his effectiveness as a provider. I was very taken aback by his aggressiveness and defensiveness and would recommend looking elsewhere for ENT care.

Great doctor!
I'm always nervous when I see a new doctor. But Dr. Duyka immediately put me at ease. Very patiently answering questions I often think might be rather stupid. Friendly, professional, caring.. I wish all my doctors were this good.

My worst visit of any doctor in the history of my life I have ever been to. I never rate or write reviews on any doctor but this experience has led me to have to do this. This doctor is terrible in his practice. He had no compassion whatsoever, no sympathy for my situation and did not even let me explain my symptoms well or speak much. He is so rude. I don't know how such a good hospital has someone like that working for them. He's awful and is careless to the needs of a patient. I needed help and care not to be judged or told like it's all in my head like I'm crazy. What he did was use his power to gaslight me as the patient. Just a bad visit overall. I left there crying. I'm writing this to help others please don't waste your time with him or share your symptoms he will not believe you and will not care. The worst experience ever.

First appointment went extremely well and confident he can help. I will admit that the first 30-45 second or so, Dr. Duyka came in and listed off a variety of things based on the information I provided via MyChart, but his bedside manner quickly changed to warm and he listened to what I had to say. I didn't see these reviews until afterwards, but I had a good experience, Yes, I was cut-off once or twice, but that was okay with me, as I am known to do that to others. I left with four options to work on my issue, two follow ups, etc. I very much look forward to working with him in the future!

As a complex patient who had already seen my PCP and immunologist and been on 2 rounds of antibiotics he was entirely dismissive. He didn't even look at me before telling me it had to be a migraine. It cleared up with antibiotics- not a migraine. He told me it was in my head. My other drs: not in agreement. Complete ahole. I wouldn't let him treat my dog.

Review is regarding Price Gouging and treatment: Dr. Duyka seemed knowledgeable, but ALSO agenda-bound and dismissive. I went regarding an issue with my voice. Like other otolaryngologists in the past he pushed for a laparoscopy and a prescription for acid reflux pills. He listened to what I stated, but seemed very short and direct with where he wanted the diagnosis to. A month later I received an insurance bill for $846. Healthcare Bluebook said this procedure should cost $250 plus the Doctor's visit fee. Their cost? $611 for the Laryngoscopy, and $330 for 13 minutes of Dr. Duyka's time. Northwestern and Dr. Duyka charged nearly 3X the average rate for the procedure. When I called NW and asked why they charged 3X as much, they replied "because we are an educational medical center." I further asked why that merited an up charge of 300%, the representative literally responded "well... I don't know why, you can google it."

I would leave zero stars if it were an option. My experience with Dr. Duyka was the worst care provider experience I've ever had. I would describe him as aggressive, abrasive and dismissive. Albeit a relatively minor issue, he showed a complete lack of compassion for the issue I was experiencing and the pain it had caused me over the last several days. He seem hurried and in a rush to get me out of the room. He did not clearly explain the issue or how to handle it -- and I left the exam with more questions than I entered with. To my complete embarrassment, I started crying in the room because of his attitude toward me and he continued to act abrasively toward me. I have never reviewed a care provider before, but this experience has led me to go out of my way to do so. If you're considering an appointment with Dr. Duyka, I'd strongly encourage you to look for another physician.

My mom went here to get her throat checked as she was referred by her doctor since they did an endoscopy and found a polyp. He dismissed her aching pain and said quickly went into her nose (using the tool that they used) and said he didn't see anything. On top of that he said that her GI doctor made a mistake and didn't see anything. She asked if they could do more testing because she doesn't feel well and this has been bothering her for some time and wouldn't be here if that was the case. Dr Duyka said well this is an expensive test, and purposefully wrote a vague description making it invalid for the insurance to approve it. My poor mom has had to go back and forth with this Dr as he clearly does not take the time and patience as needed. Disclaimer: I am not one to ever write negative reviews but this was clearly not done with value and support. Please please be careful, because he picks and chooses who he is truly going to care for.

Very rude, arrogant and didn't listen - was not open to what I was telling him about my situation. It turned out that I needed surgery on my ear for a cholesteatoma. Thank goodness I went to see another ENT who did listen and reacted to my symptoms appropriately rather than telling me that I "didn't need an ENT".

Once we finally saw Dr. Duyka he was rude, abrupt, in a rush and performed a procedure that physically hurt my father. We asked him to clean the wax that my father had built up in his ear so he took his tools and just started pushing into his ear. When told that it was hurting he acted like he just didn't care and informed us that it is his job and if we did not want the procedure that is fine. I have never met a doctor who is so heartless especially to an elderly man. I will never go back.

Dr. Duyka performed sinus surgery 2 years ago and I have never felt better, after dealing with 2 other ENT's that never corrected the long term issue with my sinuses. He is attentive and never makes you feel that your issue is not important. Dr.'s these days are slammed with patient's and always seem to be rushed. This has never been the case with Dr Duyka. I recommend him highly as a concerned and through physician.
