Dr. Muehl and I discussed the planned nerve block just above my knee, intending to last up to 24 hours. Despite my prior communication that the nerve block was not working, she proceeded with, “It will”! Upon awakening from surgery, I experienced extreme pain in my entire foot, and it became evident that the nerve block did indeed fail!The postoperative nurse contacted Dr. Muehl, who suggested to just give more IV pain medication without addressing the failed block. After four doses of Dilaudid in 40- minutes time, I experienced dizziness and nausea. When my husband insisted on a proper nerve block or a different anesthesiologist. Dr. Muehl returned with an embittered attitude, stating “I guess you want another block”. My husband and I both said we want a block that will work. Dr. Muehl performed a second block using ultrasound guidance. However, since I was given copious amount if IV pain meds, I became very dizzy, and I threw-up most of the drive home.
