Dr. Lorne Kapner, MD

Dr. Kapner took time to explain my procedure, gave recommendations, was forthright and caring. I was in good hands and did not feel nervous about my surgery for cataracts and toric lens placement. He listened to my concerns and reassured me. The results were life changing, I am grateful for his expertise.

I arrived in the office for an optometry appointment with severe eye pain after swimming in a chlorinated pool. The optometrist had not arrived and I requested being seen immediately by an ophthalmologist, which was denied by the receptionist. At my next appointment with Dr. Kapner, he supported the denial because that would have messed up their schedule (and patients already have a long wait because they routinely overbook).

Dr. Kapner provided me with excellent care for years, including taking care of me with my cataracts. My case was difficult due to previous lasik surgery and having an astigmatism and he was able to correct my vision to where I no longer need any glasses after many, many years of contacts and glasses.

Dr. Kapner scheduled a pre-op for me and previously on the prior appt. said he would do the cataract surgery on both eyes. On the day of the pre-op he was noticeably agitated and he was incredibly rude. While measuring my eye his machine rebooted & he said your eye is so weird the machine can't even calculate the algorithm! He was clearly taking out his frustrations on me for no reason. Then he turned to me & said I can't do your surgery. I have 7-9 surgeries every Wed and I can't risk that yours will take more than 20 minutes. Your left eye is extremely dry and there is surface damage and that may present a problem. He said we would need to go somewhere else after waiting 7 months for surgery. He had no good explanation why he changed his mind. We left and I found Dr. Zenzen and they are amazing. Dr. Zenzen did my cataract surgery and their entire team is spectacular. If you decide to see Dr. Kapner I hope he isn't having a bad day when he does your surgery...good luck!

Dr. Kapner and his staff have been caring for my eyes since 2011. Dr. K & staff are great about explaining various conditions including dry eye and high ocular pressures and finding treatments that fit each patient. He was sensitive to the problems I was having with using eye drops and successfully got me completely off of drops after a successful SLT procedure. I recommend Dr. Kapner and his fabulous staff as a friendly, top-notch team of professionals who really care about your eyes.

Dr. Kapner performed my cataract surgery five years ago and I'm extremely pleased with the results. He listens to his patients concerns, answers questions and has an excellent staff that supports him. His explanations are clear on concise. Never did I feel rushed. He is he absolute BEST opthalmologist in San Diego.

I find him very attentive to patients. I have never been unhappy with him as a doctor.
