Compassionate and caring
Dr. Alvarez was caring and compassionate. She took her time and evaluated my husband while addressing his concerns. She diagnosed him and he now has hope. Her office staff was cordial and Samuel was very helpful.

Still a patient after many years
I have been a patient of Dr. Alvarez for many years now. She has been the best Neurologist that I have used and I wouldn't trade her for anything. She's been a God send and has my medical issues maintaing at normal levels so I can function day to day. She has always helped with finding programs that are available through the manufacturers or government programs, so that things are affordable and helps cover the cost, even with Insurance. I highly recommend Dr. Alvarez if you need a Neurologists. Good ones are hard to find.

The worst experience ever.
My husband has Parkinson’s Disease and Alvarez recommended DBS (deep brain stimulation). A month the surgery, she had us meet with her assistant to turn it on and explain it to us. He spent most of the time on his cell phone and people kept coming and going in the room….he took us to the employee break room!! Alvarez was always dismissive and condescending. She threw my husband to the wolves after BRAIN SURGERY!! Thankfully, my husband has found a wonderful Parkinson’s doctor. Please read review before you see a doctor. I wouldn’t recommend her to my worst enemy. Also, it’s IMPOSSIBLE to ever get a person when you call the office. Worst experience ever!

Dr Maria Alvarez is an exceptional neurologist.
Dr Alvarez is a wonderful neurologist, very caring and knowledgeable in her field of expertise. I wouldn’t use anyone else. She takes her time and gets all the facts about your symptoms. I trust her with all my medical needs. One of the best and top neurologists around. Highly trained and educated.

I'm sorry that some patients felt compelled to post negative reviews about Dr. Alvarez. My experience was much different. Positive patient reviews regarding providers usually emphasize such qualities as "compassionate,'" "sympathetic," and "good listener." I'm interested in results. Dr. Alvarez clearly articulated a viable action plan to ameliorate my cluster headaches and attain realistic results. She provided me with medication options and samples to try, and even offered contact information for a possible therapy approach which she was not entirely comfortable with. It was a pleasure working with her and her amenable, competent staff today. And, get this, no follow-up visit suggested unless I thought I would benefit from it. I highly recommend her.

Worst doctor/patient interaction I've ever had
She didn’t talk to me, she talked at me. She had no interest in anything I had to say. Every time I opened my mouth I got cut off. I managed to ask about a new treatment and she actually said, “I don’t know where you'd get that. My colleague might know. If you want to cancel this appointment and see him instead, I can arrange that.” Then for the rest of the appointment, she acted like I had offended her. She just glared at me and gave clipped answers. I’ve never had a doctor behave like that before. Honestly, I was shocked. I’ve never felt so disrespected. I actually had to sit in my car for several minutes after the appointment just to wrap my head around what I had just experienced.

UNPROFESSIONAL AND RUDE
EXTREMELY RUDE PRACTICE MANAGER!! I see the reviews about the staff being rude and now I know why, because the practice manager herself is rude! I work for a doctors office that has referred many patients over the years and when my own child needed a neurologist I thought about Dr Alvarez as I had sent many patients to her as well and worked hand in hand with this Practice Manager. The scheduling person doesn't return calls or VM's so I tried reaching out to her and left her a VM which she never returned, today she actually answered the phone when I called her extension and proceeded to call me a liar when I told her I had left her a VM over a week ago and that she never returned my call. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL!! We will never refer to her office ever again I have already informed the doctors I work for about the treatment I received today and will let all of my friends that work in healthcare know as well!

Dr. Alvarez and her staff have been great! Mrs. Margaret let me know everything that was going to happen and returned my calls promptly. Dr. Alvarez was friendly and listened to my concerns. She also did a good job looking into my issues and giving me a plan for how to proceed. I'm very pleased I went to her.

I can’t say that I’m impressed by Dr. Alvarez. She seems much more interested in getting you out the door as quickly as possible and getting back to the dogs she keeps in her office. Her office does not follow up on recommended tests, you must call them several times to get an MRI scheduled. It took me two visits to realize I needed to find another neurologist. She does not listen to patient concerns at all.

Dr. Alvarez is totally dismissive of your issues and does not answer your questions. The clinic staff is rude and incompetent. Long wait times and unacceptable treatment of patients. So pathetic.

I told the clinic I didn't want to get the migraine prevention injections they were giving me anymore on 2 occasions prior to my next appointment. They ordered it anyways and I had to pay $140 to the pharmacy. I asked if I could take it home, since I paid for it and I was uncomfortable leaving it at the clinic in case they used it on someone else on my tab. I was told the clinical manager would address the whole issue with me. After not hearing from anyone I tried to call them. I was called back by an extremely angry female clinic manager who yelled at me over the phone, told me I am threatening the clinic with accusations of diversion and that they were dropping me as a patient. Pretty sad excuse to save $140 and completely unprofessional behavior. I mentioned to a drug rep I knew that I was seeing a provider at this clinic before all this happened and her reaction told 1000 words. Try another clinic.

I bring my mom to Dr Alvarez, the worst part about seeing her is trying to make appointment, follow up and getting thru to just speak to someone. We needed hospice for my mom and after the hospice company facing the paperwork in and repeated vm left to check status... it took the hospice company going down to the physical office to get help. It’s a joke. They don’t care about their customers.

I have never been treated so poorly by a doctor. I ruly wonder why she is in practice. She clearly only wants to treat Parkinson’s, so if that’s not your problem, seek Care elsewhere. She didn’t even bother to listen to the reason I was there. It certainly seemed all she wanted to do was to get me out so she could move on. Front desk was very unprofessional. I absolutely will not be back. I’d rather suffer from migraines than deal with that office again.

Dr Alvarez is a GREAT doctor, most of her staff is friendly. While you are always expecting to have a warm welcoming and pleasant experience it was not the case when scheduling your appointment and when speaking to either Janice Ackson or Tony Chamber(which is EXTREMELY rude and unprofessional). Other than that I have no complaints when speaking of Dr Alvarez herself.
