Dr. Maria Murphy, MD

I only saw her twice and regret seeing her. She put lies in my medical records about narcotics and my need for taking them. However, I never had this conversation, nor was I ever prescribed anything for pain from her. I’m still trying to get her to remove these falsified statements from my chart. Then on top of that her clinical staff are extraordinarily rude as well. I’m glad that I never had surgery with her, but now I regret seeing her twice. It’s clear that she does not care about her patients. Find another physician or you will be disappointed.

excellent Dr Murphy is a wonderful Dr she has saved my life and have stayed on top of my condition for 10 years she is the only dr i trust she is a very thorough dr and will do things right

I was having diverticulitis flare ups every other month and wound up in the emergency room and held in the hospital for a few days. Dr. Murphy came highly recommended to resolve my issue and did so ten fold! I was extremely nervous about having surgery, as you can imagine, but 100% needed it to avoid emergency surgery at any moment. Dr Murphy eased my mind throughout the process and completed the surgery with zero complications. I was out of the hospital in 2 days and feel like I'm 20 years old again!!! Truly remarkable. Thank you Dr. Maria Margarita Murphy!!!

Wonderful. Dr. Murphy explained everything to me, was very clear with her explanations, & treated me with respect & understanding. Her staff are all efficient, compassionate and supportive.

Do Not Go There! Dr. Margarita Murphy my surgery failed! Still have rectocele issue. Now I can't have my breast reduction and tummy tuck because it is so difficult to go poop. I can't be struggling and bending that way. Ruined my 40 Year Anniversary trip. Arrogant including staff. Force you to sign allowing her X-husband be assisting surgeon which could cost you big$ if insurance doesn't approve. Defecography was to be pre-authorized by her office and they refused to do anything about it. They were rude to me and my insurance company. Staff, and Office manager uncaring and unprofessional. They never even followed up with results. Will be seeing another surgeon with MUSC.

Dr. Murphy is an excellent doctor. She is so kind and takes her time to explain everything that's going on with me. I trust her completely to take care of me. Thank you Dr. Murphy.

I've seen Dr. Murphy a few times, and recently she performed a hemorrhoid surgery on me. I'll say this - her PAs are absolutely amazing. Every time I've gone in, I've found myself comforted by their demeanor After they leave the room, the frustration begins. Wait times for her average 45-hour. Waiting to kneel down and get examined from your rear end is an uncomfortable experience -- holy moly, do you want to get in and out of there as quickly as possible. But at Dr. Murphy's practice, you get the pleasure of just waiting....and waiting! The anticipation sucks. Once she's in, the rushed, "fake sweet" vibe another reviewer mentioned is spot on, and it doesn't feel like she is listening or trying to understand. Also, post-op surgery instructions are confusing and unclear in many places, and they don't follow up...but if you call, you're made to feel like an annoyance. Switched practices in search of a better experience all around.

Long wait times in the office and then she rushes while in there. She doesn't really allow for questions. I had to get a small surgery done and wasn't really given post op instructions. They were so focused on telling me about my prescriptions which btw are not standard for the procedure I had. Even the pharmacist was quite surprised that she prescribed gabapentin after the procedure I had when it's really not indicated for that use and has major side effects.

This doctor seems to have poor time management skills. Plan to wait an extended time in the waiting area and once inside an exam room if she is chosen for a visit. I went twice and waited almost an hour and a half each time and never saw her. She has a nurse and a PA that appear to do most of her visits and patient care. Although my insurance covers her treatment I will probably look for another local provider next time.

I have been gone through the treatment in this hospital last month, I want to say thanks to the whole staff specially Dr. Murphy for making my treatment successful in a very easy manner. I am almost totally recovered and feeling happy.

I thank God everyday that he sent Dr. Maria and Brendan in my life 2011. My surgery was a success and they saved my life. Thanks for all you do and and all the care I received! Katrina Watkins

This is the best Doctors office I have ever been to. Dr. Murphy really listened to me. I felt like it was the first time in my life that a doctor really heard what I was saying and listened to my symptoms and had steps on how to fix what was going on. I am so grateful that I have found her and his supportive team. Every employee that I have met at Colon Surgeon of Charleston .Gastroenterology has been so warm and friendly and willing to help.

An over 45 minute wait time shows no respect for her patients time. Dr. Murphy is brusque and fake sweet. Even her staff is cowed by her. And I was told that the practice policy is that a patient can't switch doctors within the practice. So I switched practices.
