Dr. Mark Shasti, MD

I am an 80 year old male who had two prior spinal surgeries that did not go well and that left me bent over, in terrible pain, and thinking being dead wasn’t necessarily a bad option. I was referred to Dr. Mark Shasti to see if anything could be done. He determined that a third back surgery was needed to fix the problems. He warned me, however, that at my age and given the scope of the required surgery, there were very real risks involved. I really appreciated that honesty, openness, and professionalism. Given no credible alternative, I decided to put my life in Dr. Shasti’s hands and go for surgery. I am now 30 days out from the surgery and it appears Dr Shasti hands are magic. I am now home and not a burden on my wife. I can stand and walk and do the stairs, put on my own clothes, shower and brush my teeth, and prepare my own meals – and above all else - the terrible pains that darkened my days are now just memories. What a blessing! His staff is fantastic!

My husband had two spine surgeries, which were unsuccessful. After the second surgery by a neurosurgeon, he was in severe pain and unable to sit or stand for more than two minutes. His spine had 14 screws and two long rods. Four months after the second surgery, we decided to get a second opinion. Dr Shasti reviewed my husband’s MRI and surgery was scheduled within 7 days. After 9.5 hours of surgery, he visited my husband four times and called to update me several times. He personally came to rehab and helped my husband take his first steps. I loved that I could communicate with him directly. Three weeks later, my husband was able to walk without a walker and he is pain free. Our experience with Dr. Shasti and his staff has been AMAZING from the day one. He has a very competent, efficient and friendly people working with him. From his personality to his professionalism, he is UNMATCHED by any medical professional we’ve encountered to this date.

I’ve suffered with extreme back pain for more than an 10 years having Fusion, Laminectomy, and Kyphoplasty surgeries more than once. I had injections, medication, and back braces. The pain was awful and the cost (even with insurance) was tough too. And all that ended with scoliosis as I walked hunched over. All until I met Dr Shasti! I didn’t think my back could be fixed. The last doctor I saw said not to do anything because there were too many things wrong. And in a way he was right. Only a doctor with the skills like those of Dr Shasti could rebuild my back. Dr Shasti is honest and sincere. He is committed to his patients, he takes time to listen and give instruction, he is trust worthy, skilled and has a great bedside manner. My back is straight! My back is strong! And all the thanks goes to Dr Shasti!

I saw referred to this doctor for chronic hip pain. I made my appointment weeks in advance. I was told to bring my MRI that was done 2 months earlier. I was taken back and had my hips x-rayed. Then waited for Dr. Shashti for 30+ mins. Once he came in the room he said, "you need surgery". He then spent 60 seconds rambling on about how great a doctor he was (HUGE EGO!). All he said was I needed a new MRI (I was never told I needed a newer one just 7 weeks after I had one). He then left the room. HE NEVER EXAMINED ME! He never asked me any questions about my hip. He never even saw me stand up. Then he put his medical notes in my file and claimed he spent over 45 mins with me. He accused me of refusing treatments (I had just been through steroids 3 days earlier along with 2 years of at least 15 hip injections). In his notes he said I refused "all of his suggestions". Funny....he never made ANY suggestions!

Skilled surgeon, very easy to talk to, caring, compassionate, competent and straight to the point. Patient answering questions, takes the time to make sure you understand the pros and cons of treatment options, follows through on preop and post op questions and treatment plans. I am 8 weeks post lumber fusion for severe spinal stenosis and so glad that Dr. Shasti is on my team!

Dr. Mark Shasti is a true professional, one of the best Orthopedic Surgeons in Virginia. I have had pain in my neck for years and after surgery, I have had a smooth recovery in less than 3 weeks. Dr. Shasti’ s professionalism is unmatched and he is truly an asset to the Orthopedic world!

He stands above many with his experience, pragmatic advice, eagerness to understand, and help you to understand your situation. His resolve enables the best solution and team approach for you, with you. In my case, I had years of injuries, and received several different opinions and approaches. Dr. Shasti spent the time with us to review my options until I was comfortable and trusted the path forward. He discussed and even followed up for me on options presented by others. Few doctors allow you to challenge them, even fewer offer to take calls/text to address concerns when the gravity of the prognosis sinks in. His friendly, positive, encouraging, and patient-first attitude is therapeutic and reflected across his practice from the office staff to the hospital team. My recovery is going well. The results are a clear win.

Dr Shasti has a pleasant bedside manner but that shouldn’t outweigh his dishonesty and inflated ego. He did two surgeries for my spinal stenosis and made errors both times . During the second surgery, on my lower spine , a catastrophic mistake was made which he and his team covered up . I was never told what happened by him or his partner, but I will be semi paralyzed and in a wheelchair the rest of my life .

DR. SHASTI WAS AN HOUR LATE FOR OUR SCHEDULED APPOINTMENT AND WAS OBVIOUSLY IN A HURRY TO BE ELSEWHERE. HE SPENT VERY LITTLE TIME ON OUR VISIT. HE DID NOT ASK QUESTIONS CONCERNING MY SYMPTOMS. HE DID NOT PERFORM A PHYSICAL EXAM OF MY SPINE. HE WAS NOT OPEN TO ANSWERING QUESTIONS. I LEFT WITH NO TRUST IN HIS DIAGNOSIS AND HAVE SCHEDULE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT WITH DIFFERENT SPINE SPECIALIST.

Dr Shasti is highly educated in his area of expertise and takes the time to understand what you are experiencing. He is a professional with genuine care for his patients. He goes above and beyond to discuss treatment options with out pressure to select one over the other. I am thankful to have him as part of my medical team. I highly recommend Dr Shasti to those in need of the services he provides. The office staff is professional, polite, and caring. The office is clean and relaxing. As I read my review from my first surgery, all my words ring true. He moved offices, but I found him just fine. I walk into the office and all the staff were happy to see me. Dr. Shasti had already reviewed my previous scans and the new ones I brought. He was able to talk about my condition as well as my emotional state. To find a doctor you can connect with is a rare find. I encourage those in need to reach out to Dr. Shasti, I am thankful to find a skilled surgeon and a genuine person. Dr.Shasti truly has a gift. He’s a remarkable surgeon with excellent bedside manner. When he says he’ll treat you like family- he means it. Highly recommend!

Dr. Shasti clearly puts his heart into his work and patients. He treats you with individual attention and took the time to discuss and clarify every detail of my issue with me. There was no rush, no push to surgery, and gave me his genuine thoughts and incorporated what I wanted to achieve into the treatment plan. 100% recommended!

Dr need to wait until have all my exams ready, bud He did great job explained and send me prescriptions medicine to handle the pain. Kink and friendly stuff!

Upon my admission to the hospital, the doctor has the timely decision to do what is best for my fractured bones.

Dr. Shasti listens to concerns and address each one fully and in a way that is easily understandable. He makes you feel that any concern I have is as important to him as it is to me.

Dr. Shasti was very attentive and explained things in terms I could easily understand, I felt at home and at ease! I could not have asked for anything better. The entire staff was very helpful, so courteous!!
