Great experience!
Dr. Smith completed a spinal fusion surgery for me that was flawless and provided immediate relief. While I had hoped his services wouldn’t be needed further. I was recently diagnosed with a tumor on my spine. I was again referred to Dr. Smith for follow up. I feel confident in his guidance and will most likely undergo surgery under his care again in the future. He is able to calmly explain your situation and answer any questions you may have regarding your situation. Thank you for your calm demeanor and understanding of patients needs.

Excellent surgeon and care team
Dr. Smith and his entire care team at CNSA are exceptional. He quickly and accurately diagnosed my neurological condition, thoroughly evaluating all relevant factors, including MRIs, pain levels, medical history, and input from my physical therapists. His prompt yet meticulous approach ensured an accurate diagnosis and an effective treatment plan that provided much-needed pain relief.Dr. Smith’s team, including nurses like Renee and physician assistant Michael, were instrumental in my recovery, always responsive and attentive to my questions regarding medication and post-operative care. Additionally, the outstanding physical therapy team, including Jay and Hannah, worked closely with Dr. Smith to create a comprehensive and personalized rehabilitation plan.As a CNSA patient for 16 years, I can confidently say they are the premier neurological care provider in the Carolinas. Dr. Smith is not only a top-tier surgeon but also a compassionate and dedicated caregiver.

Amazing provider
Dr Smith has a quiet intelligent demeanor. He is thorough and genuinely listens to what his patients are experiencing. Always going the extra mile he is the top neurosurgeon in Charlotte in my opinion. My wife has seen his expertise in the OR and immediately chose him for my care.

Highly recommend
After Dr. Adamson’s retirement I was referred to Dr. Smith. I had been a patient of Dr. Adamson for years and he did my most recent ACDF surgery in January 2024. I was nervous being under another doctors care. Dr. Smith was wonderful! He took time to answer questions I have had regarding my post surgical (minor) issues. He explained what to expect going forward in the months ahead. He did not rush me, was very kind, and I am grateful to have been referred to Dr. Smith.

To the point
After the retirement of Tim Adamson Dr Smith took over my spine management. His assessment was brief and thorough. He recommended fresh imaging to insure no changes were present and agreed that further evaluation and discussion was warranted prior to action to treat disc damage.

MRI results
I did not appreciate how I was treated when I was informed about my results. He worried more about me making an appointment with him after I had seen another doctors in his practice. I thought he was a specialist in degenerative disc disease. I felt disrespected and I was asked very few questions. I fell that as a nurse and patient he did not care. He offered no explanation is of why I was having pain or if there was anything else I could do except go to a pain doctor which I have gone to for 6 years. I cried on the way home because I felt he did not care at all.

Drove 4 hours to see him again
Dr. Smith is an excellent surgeon. He communicates well, explaining what he will do and has plenty of time for questions. He did urgent surgery for a brain tumor in 2009. I needed him again, to remove a cyst within the same area. No question, I was going back to have him do the procedure.

Spinal Fusion
Dr. Smith did surgery to fuse L4 and L5. Following surgery, my back pain was completely gone. Although I had soreness and a bit of discomfort at the surgical site, I experienced no pain post surgery and didn’t even need prescription pain meds. I couldn’t be more pleased with my outcome and would highly recommend Dr. Smith to anyone having back issues. He’s a great surgeon!

Outstanding neurosurgeon
Dr Smith is a very caring, skilled neurosurgeon. He is thorough in reviewing the needs of his patients and advising using non-surgical treatment when possible. When the only option is surgery, he explains the pros and cons. I would recommend him to anyone needing spine or any neurological specialist!

Almost overnight relief of neck and arm pain
Dr Smith is an unassuming and straightforward physician who listened thoughtfully to my concerns and moved remarkably fast to provide a remedy. I had compressed nerves at C5/C6 that were causing pain and numbness down my left arm. Dr Smith performed surgery to open the pathway for the nerve and the symptoms began to alleviate almost immediately. I highly recommend Dr Smith and the team.

Dr. Mark Smith is wonderful. My husband Tim was diagnosed with a brain tumor in December 2021. Dr. Smith took the time to explain all of the options available to us and answered all of our concerns with exceptional patience. He surgically removed the tumor on 3/15/22, with unbelievable success. Tim’s care after surgery was amazing and his recovery was outstanding. He had his final MRI and consultation with Dr. Smith on 6/23/22. Tim has been cleared and we do not have to return to Carolina Neuro until 6/2023. I would highly recommend Dr. Smith to anyone seeking professional care for any brain issues. We believe he saved Tim’s life.
