Brain Tumor follow up.
Last February Dr VanPoppel removed a brain tumor. Yesterday was my one year follow-up with an MRI. It was very convenient to have everything done in one building and have images read and ready to discuss with the doctor. The surgery was tough but had no complications and was checked on frequently for first several weeks - which was great! Answered all my questions and helped with all my request. Praying I never have a need for Dr Van Poppel again but I do highly recommend him. Gods speed Doc!

Dr Poppel was so attentive from the beginning of the appointment. He came in with me immediately knowing he had reviewed my case, that was so reassuring. I was so comfortable with him.You go through your life never thinking you will need a neurosurgeon. And I have been blessed with a really good one.

Great Neurosurgeon
You cannot find a better neurosurgeon that Dr. Van Poppel. He listens and truly wants the best outcome for every patient. I have been his patient for five years. I have obstructive hydrocephalus. Four years ago I moved to Florida, and I have not been able to find another doctor like him. So, now I drive from FL to NC for all my followup and continued treatment. That's how much he means to me and my family.

Spinal Decompression - Chiari Malformation I
Spinal Decompression Chiari Malformation IAfter a year of experiencing headaches and radiating back pain, my primary doctor ordered an MRI that indicated I had Chiari Malformation AND a syrinx on my spinal cord. I was referred to Dr. Van Poppel where he thoroughly explained what was going on in my body and that I was a candidate for spinal decompression surgery. He was very thorough with the prep for surgery ordering a swallow test, specialized eye exam for my optic nerve, and a MRI for better insight on my malformation. I appreciated having these done so that he went into surgery knowing as much about my body as possible. Surgery day came and went wonderful. I was out discharged from the hospital 48 hours after surgery and received great instruction on aftercare. I highly recommend Dr. Van Poppel.

Glioblastoma removal
Dr Van Poppel removed a glioblastoma from the right side of my brain in March 2023. To be honest I don’t remember a lot about my visit with him other than how critical it was that it be removed and soon. The surgery was performed within days. I spent one night in the hospital and went home the following morning. I later learned that the tumor was the size of a large apple. I am so blessed to have had a surgeon of such ability to do this procedure for me. Post-op follow up was caring but not intrusive. My heart felt thanks go out to him and his team. I can’t recommend him highly enough. 5 stars is insufficient.

Thankful
I was so impressed with the time Dr. Van Poppel spent explaining my MRI results and why surgery was not the best option. He allowed all the time needed for any questions, and I have great confidence in the plan he is pursuing regarding my case. With Dr. Van Poppel’s professionalism, his competence as a neurosurgeon, and his perfect manner with his patients, I would absolutely recommend him to others without hesitation.

Dr. Van Poppel is a very skilled surgeon. He performed my son’s Chiari 1 surgery at Levine Children’s Center one year ago. Besides the decompression, Zach’s brain tissue had fused to his first two vertebrae. Dr. Van Poppel fixed it all. I wouldn’t say he’s warm and fuzzy, but he’s pleasantly straightforward and treated us with respect and care. Zach was out his 3rd day there and back to school in a week and a half. He played soccer this fall and is playing Lacrosse now with all symptoms gone.

Truly gifted, excellent bedside manner, takes his times answering and explaining your child's conditions and makes every effort to connect with your child and ease their anxiety. My child has a condition that can be very dangerous when not controlled and trusting the physician responsible for staying on top of that is the difference between life or death and life without vision. Interactions are pleasant and positive. He will be behind as with most surgeons at practice, but he can be trusted.
