Bad hip
He misdiagnosed osteonecrosis of the hip as a spine problem and it was 6 months before the correct diagnosis was made and meanwhile it deteriorated into chronic severe pain and need for a walker.

Great supraspinatus tear repair, early July 2023
My interactions with Garard went swell. Both the surgery and recovery were a doodle: the nerve block lasted about 30 hrs; I needed narcs for another 30 hrs; then about a week tapering off 600mg Ibu to occasional OTC Ibu. The biggest hassle was sleeping in a recliner so I wouldn't roll over on it. I hit all PT milestones on the first day they came up (Eldorado PT was great, too). I was pumping iron after Christmas, to muscle failure by Feb. Now May 2024, that shoulder is much stronger than a year ago -- maybe stronger than ever, which is saying something since I was a smokejumper 45 years ago. He was more successful than I imagined possible.

Dr Garard did my hip Surgery in March 2022. I wonder why I didn't have it done sooner. It was the best experience and great follow up with his staff. I Highly recommend Dr. Garard to anyone. Thank you for making my life so much better Dr. G

For me, he was great.
Did my hip a few years ago, now a shoulder….. i’ve got buncha junk going so “I’m ” complicated. NOBODY would touch me! Gerard and I met several times, before he agreed to surgery. Appropriately cautious but able to think outside the box! Smart and talented! I see a lot of doctors and not easily impressed.

I would recommend him to friends and/or family. I was a patient of Dr. Garard's last year. I am quite active and therefore have seen a great number of orthopedists. He is an excellent one. He was knowledgeable and thorough, and tracked my progress in physical therapy. I was treated appropriately based on the radiologists report (it has been years since a doctor saw an X-ray). If the radiologist had reported no break or abnormalities of the bone, and I were in pain, I would have expected him to prescribe medications or a cortisone shot to reduce inflammation, not to "mask" pain since anti-inflammatories can't do that.

I was totally not impressed by this doctor. He wasn’t interested in figuring out what was wrong. He preferred giving me pain meds and a cortisone shot to mask the pain instead. He seemed like he was in too much of a hurry to get to his next patient or his lunch break to take the time to listen and take me seriously. Upon reviewing my X-rays he didn’t see why I was in such pain. He was hesitant to do an MRI, preferring to simply give me a cortisone shot to mask the pain. In short, I got the MRI and saw two other orthopedic surgeons. They knew immediately upon looking at my X-rays and MRI that my hip was completely shot and I needed a replacement. I had the surgery ASAP and have been without pain since the surgery a month ago. I would not recommend this doctor based upon the several appointments that I had with him. Had I not listened to him for several months saying he couldn’t find anything wrong, I would have gone elsewhere sooner and been out of pain. I cannot recommend this Dr.

Dr. Garard did my 6-year-old son's surgery when he broke his arm and he was just amazing. His bedside manner was great, he made us both very comfortable and did a wonderful job fixing his arm. He also took care of my mother-in-law when she had bone cancer and we could not be happier with the care she recrived.
