15 years of good health
Bipolar disorder almost took my life away after a series of multiple hospitalizations over a handful of years. I was truly hopeless and lost. If it wasn't for Dr. Chanoff's treatment plan (pharmacological and psychotherapy intervention) I wouldn't be living as a dedicated academician, devoted husband and loving father. Take what you want from my review and the reviews of others, but if you've ever spent any time trying to find the right psychiatrist, maybe we can agree that finding medical professionals who practice with authentic kindness and compassion are few and far between -- but that's just what she embodies through and through, kindness and compassion. She hasn't let me down for about 15 years; I never felt like a patient; and only lifts me up at each session. She's the gift that truly keeps on giving, and I'm blessed she's practicing in the Boston area. I usually choose to commute for 50 min in-person sessions from Metrowest, but her virtual platform is great, too.

Bring your check book.
Wonderful while your willing to hand over money for expensive medications and therapy sessions with her assistant, who is not not a psychiatrist but still costs $300 per hour. Only seemed interested in pushing medication and ketamine costing thousands. As soon as it became apparent that I couldn't continue with these expensive therapies, never heard from her again, except for marketing emails from her office selling Psychedelic therapy sessions. All about the money, little else.

condescending doctor
I always felt like Dr Chanoff was talking down to me during our appointments, almost like I was causing my own depression or something. I never really felt like I was getting any better while I was a patient of hers. She kept pushing these food/diet questionnaires on me about the Ayurvedic diet and she thought that by changing my eating, my symptoms would improve. I am already a vegan who eats lots of raw veggies and fruit, by the way. In the end, I felt like when I didn't take her advice about food, she stopped being interested in continuing to help me and her attitude changed toward me. I felt really hurt and abandoned. I would not recommend this doctor at all.

Gave me a new start
Dr. Charnoff has been a blessing to me. She assessed my situation quickly and working together found the correct combo of drugs which has dramatically reduced my OCD. I have seen many other psychiatrists for meds, and with her I have had a miraculous improvement. She is a lovely, accessible person who I value for her compassion, thoroughness and genuine concern. Highly recommend

I started seeing Dr. Chanoff during my worst depressive relapse in several years. I cannot recommend her enough. She is compassionate, thorough, thoughtful and very knowledgeable. She sifted through my years of records, quickly and effectively collaborated with my other providers and had insights into my symptoms, history and response to medications that were extremely helpful in managing a dire situation, getting me well and keeping me well. Dr. Chanoff is very professional and organized but also empathetic, kind, generous and creative - a rare and winning combination!

Dr. Chanoff once asked me if I could schedule my next appointment for an hour earlier than usual, and I told her that I'd love to oblige but that it would be impossible because I had another appointment right before that and I wouldn't be able to get there in time. She told me that we should schedule it anyway and I should just "try my best". I’m a pretty meek person, so I went along with her request. When the next appointment rolled around, I rushed to get there and arrived about 40 minutes late, just as I had said I would. She exploded at me, accusing me of being lazy and irresponsible. I tried to placate her, saying calmly, "I'm sorry, I tried to get here as fast as I could." A sudden pall came over her face and she dramatically backed away, feigning fear, and shouted, "I'M NOT AFRAID OF YOU." Then she slammed the door in my face. I can only imagine that she was trying to gaslight me into believing I was being violent. It was extremely disturbing. I cannot recommend Dr. Chanoff.

I have worked with Dr. Chanoff on and off for the last fifteen years. Throughout that time, she has guided me through some incredibly intense life changes and my success in navigating those is undoubtedly owed to her. A Harvard-trained psychiatrist, she continues to elevate her practice by incorporating an eastern approach to healing and wellness with her western science-based education. Dr. Chanoff not only listens with her whole body, she is able to address worries, anxieties, and fears all the while championing victories, small or large, that are direct outcomes from her continued guidance and support. She is nurturing, sincere, honest and professional. I cannot recommend her enough.

I have seen Dr. Chanoff for a few years now after seeing countless other therapists, psychiatrists, and alternative health providers. Without a doubt she is the most compassionate, understanding, and effective psychotherapist I have ever met. She helped me through an incredibly difficult time with kindness, curiosity, humor, and just the right amount of pushback to help me grow. She really saw me in a way that I never felt like I was seen before. The fact that she can combine her expertise in psychiatry and therapy is immensely helpful, as the therapeutic work informs her decisions on medication. Though she does not take insurance, her services were easily and almost completely reimbursable through my health care plan and she was very helpful in making this work. I can't recommend Dr. Chanoff highly enough.

Marni Chanoff is one of the smuggest, self-satisfied doctors I've ever worked with. Whenever I expressed concerns that I couldn't afford to see her anymore, considering she was charging $200/half hour and didn't accept insurance, she told me to ask my mom to pay. Thanks! That would be more helpful if my mom was also making $7/minute. If you're late, she charges you for the full session, because "personal responsibility," as if you control traffic, fine, fair enough; if she's late, it's oh well, sorry—and you still get charged for the full session. The vibe is very much that her time is worth more than yours, that she knows more about you than you, that you're simple and need to be condescended to. After an appointment once she sent a follow up email to let me know that whoops, she forgot to mention she was raising her rates to $250/half hour! For what? Who knows. I would recommend looking for a psychiatrist who has a more reasonable view of what it means to not have unlimited money.

Dr Chanoff saw my son for his anxiety and depression and could never really get his medication correct. He became quite suicidal and ultimately she just turned out to be not a good doctor. I feel that she is only concerned about her reputation and does not have any compassion. She came across as very judgemental and overall we were not pleased with her advise for our son. I feel like these perfect 5 star reviews may have been written by Dr Chanoff herself and reading them makes me feel so uncomfortable.

Dr. Chanoff is an outstanding and talented psychiatrist. She is perceptive, compassionate and considerate and provided me with exceptional care throughout an extremely difficult period of time. She was always available when I was presented with an unanticipated challenge. Anyone would be fortunate to have the benefit of Dr. Chanoff’s experience. I attribute my success to her remarkable capabilities.

For the past 8 months, Dr. Chanoff has been treating my son for anxiety and depression. Right from the start, she assessed immediately how many layers of concerning things were going on hile other mental health professionals were not able to sort it out), she calmed his fears, and started him in a positive direction. With her great compassion and talented expertise, she helped us put a plan together to better assess what was happening for him. She reached out to her other talented colleagues and began to help us make appointments to gather more info. While away on vacation, she had phone conversations with other doctors and replied to my son's email questions. She has been there for him on every step of this journey. In my professional and personal life, I have met many other mental health professionals and Dr. Chanoff is truly an amazing psychiatrist, and a beautiful human being! She is well respected by other top mental health leaders and if you have the opportunity to work

Dr. Chanoff is an extremely compassionate, kind and caring psychiatrist. I have been a patient of hers for a number of years and she has helped me through some very challenging times. What I appreciate most is her integrated approach to mental health. Medication management and therapy are important but she also equally stresses the need for life balance, incorporating a healthy diet, exercise and mindfulness practice. I have never found her to be judgmental nor does she push things upon you. She offers suggestions and you are free to try them or not. Over the years I have seen a number of psychiatrists and she is without a doubt the best I have ever encountered.

At first, Chanoff seemed like a compassionate Dr. who put my needs first and was invested in my road to recovery. Unfortunately, I signed a release during an initial visit for she & my family to speak in case of emergency, hospitalization etc. A few months later, she went behind my back replying to an email from my father & agreed on a time to meet him - WITHOUT CONTACTING ME FIRST & refused to divulge the contents of the email. Unethical and hurtful to say the least! Very weird. Steer clear!!!
