Dr. Mary Jo Schmitz, MD

Dr. Schmitz was very personable and it helped ease my fears. She explained the procedure and answered all of my questions. From pre op to post op she was very personable and made me feel valued. She treated me with care knowing that this everyday procedure for her was a very scary thing for me. I am so thankful to her and the team of nurses that aided in my comfort. Absolutely highly recommend!

Dr. Schmitz listens and answers your questions. She explains what's going on and proposes next steps in treatment that allow for your input. She and her staff provide care that went beyond my expectations. A former neighbor who works at Swedish Hospital said that Dr. Schmitz fights for her patients, but that didn't come as a surprise to me.

Dr. Schmitz was kind, caring, very attentive to detail, extremely knowledgable-listened without computer assistance, reassuring in her diagnosis- her staff- Jennifer-very competent also- a lovely front office as well- thank you.

Dr. Schmitz is FANTASTIC, smart, engaging, and personable! She's a joy to work with especially when you consider the gravity of her speciality. All the front staff and Dr. Schmitz assistant are so welcoming and gracious - this office treats everyone with respect and dignity.

Dr Schmitz was my surgeon for a peritoneal carcinoma procedure and scheduled my surgery as quickly as possible, called me on the Saturday following the surgery to let me know the pathology results, and also called when she knew that my daughter could be part of the conversation. I so appreciate Dr Schmitz's empathy, thoughtfulness, and exemplary skills.

I would most definitely recommend Dr. Schmitz, and her practice. I believe her skill to be exceptional as is her ability to listen and have compassion for her patients. I also would like to say that her Nursing staff, in particular Karen, are exceptional as well!!! And her receptionist, Gayle is organized and very competent, calm, and pleasant. I must say....it meant soooo much to me to hear the Doctor say she would pray for me after my diagnosis and treatment recommendations...she was clear and hopeful.

Dr. Schmitz is knowledgeable, skilled, experienced, and caring. My experience with her has been totally positive and life saving. She listens, understands, and and offered me honest advice as to my prognosis and consequences, but didn't aggressively insist that I follow it. I did take advantage of her clear recommendation and had her do my surgery. The surgery and recovery were completely successful and amazingly pain free. The staff in her office are an outstanding, lovely, competent and very caring team which adds a lot to my comfort level when I have an appointment. In my last visit, Dr. Schmitz spent more time than usual talking with me which I very much appreciated. Because of covid 19, she couldn't give me her standard hug, but I felt one from her anyway. I appreciate her and highly recommend her.

Dr Schmitz and her entire staff are great! She explains every step and listens to all of your concerns no matter how small. You never feel rushed, in fact, the caring and concern of the nurses and staff make you feel loved during your most stressful time. You can’t go wrong choosing this practice.

After having cancer, nothing is more nerve- wracking than follow up appointments. However, ever time I visit Dr. Schmitz, I am overcome with a sense of calm and always feel so loved up and taken care of. My most recent visit was a bit overdue, and Dr. Schmitz greeted me with the most reassuring bear hug:) Hands down the best doctor and support staff I have ever had...and I have had a lot!

She performed my hysterectomy and did an excellent job all throughout my ordeal.

This was my wife, Sharon's first visit for consultation about an operation. The staff was friendly, caring and considerate of her dementia. Dr Schmitz was great. She had reviewed the prior info sent and knew exactly what needed to be done. Her exam of Sharon was compassionate and she explained the upcoming procedure clearly and answered all my questions.

At a doctors office no one wants to be familiar with, they all treat you like family and truly care about your well-being. I would recommend this office to anyone!

I am 66 and never had any surgery.So I was floored when I was told I had stage 1 uterine cancer and needed a hysterectomy. Dr.Mary Jo Schmitz explained everything to me and gave me great odds for a full recovery cancer free. My boyfriend has had 6 surgeries and was hugely impressed by Mary Jo and her crew. He couldn't believe how nice everyone was.

given the overwhelming number of excellent reviews i am willing to give her the benefit of the doubt, but my experience was terrible. dr schmitz seemed distracted and was not listening to what i told her. she did not read my records before my visit and scared me badly when she told me i had vaginal cancer which was in reality radiation damage from brachytherapy. the records from my former physician made that clear but she was too busy to read them. i left her office trembling and in tears. there was no cancer in the vagina.

Dr. Scmitz is a very professional, compassionate and knowledgable doctor. She spends time answering your questions and explaining treatment options and procedures. I would highly recommend her to anyone looking for a great gyn/oncologist! The office staff is very professional and welcoming. Dr. Schmitz and her staff work together to provide a level of care that is hard to find in the medical field in this day and age!
