Professional, Thorough, Knowledgeable, Friendly
I was referred to Dr. Cox by my father who has been a patient of his for years now. He is thorough, explains things well when asked, and willing to take the time to figure out the problems. Some reviews say he doesn’t like questions, but I have found the opposite to be true. Perhaps some take his straightforward, factual, science based approach as lacking in the fluff they need to comfort them. I personally am very appreciative of his straightforward, professional manner. Highly recommend!

Couldn’t have been better
My consult with him went very well. He was knowledgable, offered choices and was on board with my choice and the procedure was scheduled. His calm demeanor really put me at ease. The Eustachian tube dilation was done in office. I was sufficiently numbed, which made the procedure complexly painless. He was reassuring during the process and I was pleasantly surprised that pressure was resolved immediately and hearing had improved as well. A month later and my hearing has improved significantly and the pressure never returned. Words cannot express my gratitude.

Does not like being asked questions and dismissive
From the moment I stepped foot into this office, I could tell that Dr. Cox has his preconceived notions about what was causing my sinus pain and did not adequately listen to my concerns. I told him that I was having trouble breathing due to congestion and he told me that he thinks it’s due to allergies and that I need a total nose reconstruction done by his friend in Gainesville to see any kind of relief. He also refused to start allergy treatment until I saw his friend in Gainesville, in which the office has horrible reviews. After being dismissive repeatedly by Dr. Cox, I found a new ENT who insisted that I did not require a full nose reconstruction to feel better and that there are so many other options. After doing a physical assessment and looking up my nose with a scope, my new doctor told me that he couldn’t imagine why Dr. Cox was pushing me to get a rhinoplasty when it wasn’t even the source of my problems. There’s so much more to say that I can’t due to a character limit.

Arrogant, counterproductive, young,inexperienced
Mr.Cox did not want to listen or help with my ear ache. Ordered MRI which ended reporting the wrong ear! Diagnosed neuralgia within 4 minutes of 1st visit, refused to believe during 2nd visit that his referenced neurologist sent me back to him saying that he was wrong!. Insisted that my ear was 'perfectly fine', refused to clean it. Called those squeaky sounds in my ear being 'nerves crunching! '. ...5 days later I received antibiotics from a different ENT who was shocked to hear that my ear was 'nice and clean'. Later pulled a huge ear plug out of it. Hardly a doctor, mr.Cox focuses on his tattoos MUCH more then patients. Don't waist your time here. This guy is a joke.

Does not like being asked questions
My perception of Dr. Cox is that he does not like answering questions and he does not like to offer explanations. I went into see Dr. Cox over an infection which acted like a cholesteatoma that I had removed a couple years ago. Dr. Cox had me do a CT scan but failed to tell me the radiologist report found a 'lesion;' instead said it could be a cholesteatoma but wasn't certain. Dr. Cox does not present himself in a very confident manner, e.g., you can have surgery if you want - almost as if I, the patient, should make the decision. But the reason I'm giving the single star is that I'm someone that asks questions, and because I asked questions - politely, not rudely, just about what the surgery entailed, Dr. Cox decided we 'didn't have an effective doctor patient relationship' and referred me elsewhere. So beware, not saying Dr. Cox is a bad doctor, but doesn't like to answer questions, and expects his patients to accept what he says at face value without offering any explanations.

Would recommend a different provider
I was referred to Dr. Cox by my PCP for ongoing hoarseness after being sick. I met with him initially on 01/19/23. During my visit, the only person who gathered any background information was the clinic assistant who also took me back to the room and pre-filled some of the office note. Dr. Cox was pleasant but quiet. Personally, I prefer a provider who I feel I can have a discussion with; I like to take an active role in my healthcare. He moved quickly without much conversation. Recently, I obtained a copy of my office note from this visit, and to my shock, the only portion written by a person was the fact-finding done by the clinic assistant. There was no impression written by the Dr of what may be the cause of my continued hoarseness. Even though our communication styles clashed, I would have considered a follow-up since my problem persists, but the lack of appropriate medical documentation prompts me to find a different group entirely.

Great Dr.
Dr. Cox is truly one of a kind. He has a very friendly and pleasant personality, which helps to put me at ease. He is extremely knowledgeable and intelligent, with a great bedside manner (which I think is hard to find these days). He listens and explains things very well and demonstrates a genuine concern for patients. Dr. Cox is the reason that I go to the ENT office that I go to. I've seen other Doctors at the facility, and I can honestly say that Dr. Cox is the best!

I recently had sudden hearing loss. At first I thought that Dr. Cox was helpful and understanding to my Emergent situation. I was initially given a short run of high dose steroids, which helped. Until a few weeks later when my hearing suddenly got worse. I had followed up and basically he gave me the option of injectable steroids, which he said he wouldn't do, however it was up to me. I then called back within the week, basically in tears because I could not hear and my career was at stake. I asked the office to see about another round of high dose steroids, as they helped the first time. Bilateral sudden hearing loss is an emergent situation. The office "nurse" as she called herself, and the office manager treated me as if I was a drug seeker. They told me I needed to have my HR department accommodate me and that Dr. Cox refused to give me more steroids, and at that time not even injectable. The office manager was very rude and told me my hearing is not coming back and seek another DR

Everyone says their doctor is “the best.” I was told by my PCP I was lucky to get in to see Dr. Cox because he was “the best.” I never write reviews, but felt the need because after seeing Dr. Cox and experiencing his level of care for myself during my office visits and surgery, I can honestly say he is “the best!” I would never see another ENT in Orlando, FL.

Doctor Mathew Cox is a fantastic physician. Visited him several times and most recently provided almost immediate comfort for me. Sinuses were out of control for several days but within the same day I was feeling much better. Thank you Doctor Cox. He is definitely very high on all my Doctors. Best ENT I ever been treated by. I recommend him to anyone. A 5 Star physician.

He performed a tonsillectomy on me, I am 18 and was very nervous going under anesthesia for my first time. Dr. Cox made me feel very safe about going into surgery and he is honestly just a really sweet soul with a great and funny personality. Thank you Dr. Cox for being the only ENT specialist who has listened to my troubles with my tonsils, and decided to take action.

I was in Florida for the winter and in Jan 2019, I completely lost hearing in my right ear. I luckily found Dr Cox's office by searching for ENTs in the area. I was told after my appointment that he was the best. After the aggressive treatment he recommended, my hearing was fully restored. I truly believe that if I had not found Dr Cox, I would not have gotten my hearing back. I TOTALLY RECOMMEND HIM!!! Jim Norton - Stillwater, MN

I have to admit I was a little apprehensive because of his age LOL I was put immediately at ease when he came into the room and we spoke. He listened patiently as I tend to talk too much sometimes, maybe all the time but he listened and then treated my ears conservatively which I was very thankful for , but also with an understanding of all my underlying issues that could have been contributing to my not being able to hear clearly. I would highly recommend him , without hesitation!

After suffering from a blocked ear for over a month and totally frustrated with ENT doctors in the Villages, I researched UNT doctors in Orlando. I met with him yesterday and he drained my ear through the eardrum and in less than 10 minutes he drained the fluid behind the drum with immediate relief. He indicated that he has performed this procedure more than 400 times! He was extremely pleasant and I would highly recommend him!
