Great surgeon
I had spinal fusion 5 months ago. It was life changing! I had gotten to the point that I could barely walk and standing up was excruciating. Now I can walk long distances and stand up as much as I want to. The quality of my life has gone from horrible to wonderful. I truly feel like it is miraculous and it’s because of Dr Gary’s expertise. I am forever grateful!

I met Dr Gary back in April of 2017 with serious lower back pain that I almost took my life. He accepted me as a patient and he performed a posterior and anterior L5-S1 back fusion. It will be 7 years in August since this was done and I can't thank him enough for the quality of life I have now. My flexibility is limited but it ok. A very professional, smart, well dressed young man. The best in my book.

I TRAVLED FAR AND THIS WAS THE WRONG DOCTOR!
October 6th, 2023I read good reviews about this doctor, but found them to be untrue. I traveled 3 hours from a different state to get proper surgical care post surgery that was done incorrectly by a neurosurgeon in my own state. A year later, and having had 2 major tests for Dr. Gary, he was clueless. I have been left in excruciating cervical pain after a year wasted. If problem were obvious, like a broken neck, he might be able to figure it out, but he is helpless if it is more complicated. How anyone gave this physician 5 star reviews I have no idea. FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR, and save yourself time, pain and money!!

WRONG DOCTOR IF YOUR IN PAIN! – Oct 21, 2023

Superlative Spine Surgeon
From the moment I met Dr. Gary, it was evident that he genuinely took the time to listen to my concerns and understand my condition. He patiently answered my questions and explained the procedure in a way that made me feel comfortable and informed. Even while traveling abroad, Dr. Gary made a point to discuss my concerns with me. One aspect I appreciated was his thorough review of my latest imaging, during which he answered all of my questions, including those driven purely by curiosity about anatomy and medicine. He was also able to advise me on how to best seek care for an unrelated issue I was having. His dedication and rigor inspired more confidence than other surgeons I had consulted with, leading me to travel hours just to be under his care. I would highly recommend Dr. Matthew Gary and his exceptional team to anyone in need of a neurosurgeon. I am beyond thankful for Dr. Gary and the entire team who have played a role in my recovery journey.

So Very Glad I Found Dr Gary
Dr Gary performed a revision on previous lumbar surgery I had 4 years ago. I had seen a couple other dr's that didn't seem to want to even talk about doing a revision. With initial visit to Dr Gary he was ready, willing, and definitely able. The revision added ane additional level (L2/L3) due to insurance only covering 3 level fusions when I originally had it done. I consider myself so fortunate that Dr Gary added the additional fusion and cleared out some nerve entrapment that was not corrected in prior fusion. months after surgery I am healing up well and looking forward to a much better life as nerves regrow now that they are being impinged in my low back. Dr is worth the wait although I highly suggest getting on the cancelation list for surgery. Then be ready, my surgery was performed 2 months before my original scheduled date!

I was feeling great except my shoulder. I went to my chiropractor and he hit a spot in my neck and i was instantly paralyzed. My vertebrae had eroded and slid to my left side and crushed my nerve cords on about 4” of nerves. The doctors said i would never walk again. Said a successful surgery would be if i didn’t get and worse. Hmmm. I had the Surgery by Dr Gary and his team. I woke up 5 days later to see my family. I felt great i sat up and everyone gasped. Like i was Lazarus and awakened from the dead. Three days later i was walking with a walker. 10 days and i didn’t need the walker. Dr Gary is the best you can find. But more than that, everyone i came in contact with at Emory was the best at there jobs that i have ever seen. great attitude and they truly loved their jobs. The exrays after surgery left me speechless. i cannot believe the engineering marvel that is now my neck and back spinal cord. Stunning. Simply the Best.

Second chance on living – Sep 29, 2021

Dr. Matthew Gary has certainly changed my life for the better! After having both Cervical spine surgery and lumbar spine surgery, I no longer experience shaking hands, arm numbness, strength loss, mobility loss or sciatica pain down my legs (which has gone on for years.) I no longer use a cane or walker to get around. In fact, I had also purchased a wheel chair knowing that I would soon need it. I would recommend him 1000% to anyone having any of the same symptoms as I had. In fact to quote one of his team while I was still in the hospital, "Dr. Gary is like a magician. I have never seen anyone who can do the things he does." I totally agree!!!

Dr. Gary is an excellent doctor. He took the time to reassure me when I was afraid of having the surgery by explaining my x-rays and the procedure. I saw him before the surgery and in my recovery room. Dr. Gary was my lifeline because I was by myself going into surgery. I trusted him because he showed cared about me as a person and he said that he would take care of me. That meant everything to me! I would recommend Dr. Gary to anyone having spinal surgery. My surgery took only an hour and when I saw Dr. Gary after my surgery, I felt such gratitude to have had such a gifted surgeon operating on me!!!
