Bad bedside manner
Dr. Gusler was one of the rotating attending physicians my mom had after her stroke. Previous doctors at OSU had been patient and understanding with our questions, as this was an incredibly stressful and scary time for my family. Gusler was neither patient nor understanding, and seemed annoyed and aggravated by our questions. Before he entered my mom’s room, she’d been trying to communicate that her stomach hurt. She’d had a bad bowel surgery last year that almost killed her, so I thought the pain was worth mentioning. When Gusler came in, I told him she was complaining of pain. He immediately started talking over me and accused me of wanting to sedate my mom.When he was doing the neuro exam, I was berated for talking to my mom, even though I was just giving her the same instructions that he was. Other doctors had encouraged me to help with the neuro exam.He made my family feel stupid and incompetent.
