If I could rate him lower I would. Yet another doctor at VMG that is late and is a liar. Smiled at my trauma response while I was explaining what VMG put me through, lied and said I calle disagree smile disgusting in the report regardless of me clarifying I thought him smiling in response to me being in distress disgusting and not his actual face(I don't make negative comments on physical appearances). He still put it in the notes I called his smile disgusting. Then he also guilt Tripped me with his reason as to why he was 28 minutes late to a virtual visit. He said his last patient was 'so sick' to me. I also have chronic illnesses and feel he is sabotaging my medical care. He also doesn't seem to have any understanding around intersex conditions, or nonbinary people. Dr. Spitzer also continued to deadname me in his consultation notes to my PCP. He is unprofessional at best and if you want real care I would not reccomend Dr. Spitzer. I thought I could trust him but I was proven wrong

Extremely refreshing visit
I saw Dr. Spitzer for a follow up appointment about an incidental thyroid nodule noted on a CT scan. The nodule is big enough to need biopsy, and he was very kind and thorough while explaining exactly why and what that would look like. I also happen to be trans, and I felt very respected while he was asking me questions about my hormone therapy. I was honestly shocked to see that he had a number of negative reviews; his communication style, while a bit of a surprise, was an entirely pleasant one for me. Explained everything before doing it, washed his hands and asked permission before touching me, and made me feel like I was in control of the direction of the appointment the whole time I was in that room.

Nonbinary with metabolic issues - prbly not for u
I've gone to Dr Spitzer a number of times and each time come away feeling unheard, rushed out of the appt, like he doesn't understand queerness or trans unless you want full feminization or masculization, won't do full thyroid panels, dismisses any testing that isn't conclusive as being indicative that there is no problem. Does not document main complaint of appt - this last one was that I have variable at home glucose readings that do not follow the patterns of prediabetes, T2, nor simple beginning of insulin resistance, and that I've been incoherent after eating to the point people aren't able to wake me. My glucose is going anywhere from 212plus to 64 and below, but this is somehow not a cause of my problems. I keep trying to give Dr Spitzer a chance because my PCP believes he is knowledgeable, but I've yet to see it in my relationship with him as a provider. I'm sure he is great for folks with established conditions. But trying to get one established, near impossible!

Dr. Spitzer, an excellent Endocrinologist
I have been seeing Dr. Spitzer for about 5 years, since I moved to the Greenfield, MA area. He has been as good or better than any endocrinologist that I have seen since I first developed diabetes about 20 years ago. I would give him the highest possible rating. He is kind, thorough, smart, up-to-date, helpful, and goes the extra mile when needed.

Bizarre bedside manner
I was referred to Dr. Spitzer several years ago for the prescription and management of gender affirming hormones since my PCP at VMG wasn't authorized to prescribe, and I kept seeing him out of convenience (I only need to 1x a yr at this point). I've always found him a bit awkward and strange: looks more at the laptop than he does at me, speaks like he's working off of a script, makes listening noises but doesn't appear to actually be listening if the visit notes he writes (and reads aloud to me as he's writing them lol) are anything to go by, and in general often speaks to me as if it's my first time in is office even after I'd been a long established patient. He doesn't seem particularly knowledgeable about the queer or trans community, which makes me questions his decision to offer care to us. He's never said anything wild, but I don't feel comfortable with him, and I'd recommend finding this kind of care elsewhere, if you have the option.

I met with Dr. Spitzer last month after years of painful periods, migraines, and increasingly earlier + irregular periods. After getting my period one week after my last one ended, I needed help. I asked him if it would make sense to have my hormones checked on a regular basis to see what, if any fluctuations could tell. I had them checked twice after pushing the gynecologist to do it. He never answered my question, only said "I've seen your results, they look fine." He then went on to ask me, "what are your main complaints? ..I know you have migraines." This is after I told him about endometriosis and everything I was going through- feeling like I was having a baby when peeing, and so much more. He then asked "What is so horrible about getting your period a week early?" This. This is why I'm giving him a 2 star review. He tried, but man, did he miss the mark on so many levels. Thanks but no thanks. He told me to see someone who specializes in endometriosis.

One of THE best! I have a complicated case. He never rushes, is extremely thorough & goes above & beyond with dx & ordering which I appreciate. He reminds me of my son. I believe ppl giving him low marks simply don't understand him and/or don't have endo related issues. I understand how he communicates & works because my son is the same way. A brilliant overachiever who is skilled at multitasking. He is researching your issues while you talk. Age-ism is very real. I prefer young drs. Others dont

Waited two months for appt. Was very sick during that time and it was very hard to get TO the appt. I found him to be cloyingly nice (disorienting) and I gave him a written rundown of my illness (easier than speaking it over & over). He felt my thyroid and then asked me if I had stress. I said yes (of course), he attributed my extreme illness to being depressed! I was so insulted. He ordered no blood tests. He then sat down & said goodbye. I have Hashimoto's. He didn't bother to test for it.

He is young but very professional and knowledgeable, asks me lots of questions every time i see him, types everything in (so i get why some people think he doesn't listen - its because he is writing everything down), I'm 33 and i totally understand this behavior. Always sends in his notes even after appointments and after tests (I don't have to wait for next appointment to get his opinion). I could not ask for a better doctor in my condition.

I was referred by my PCP to Spitzer for thyroid issues. I waited months for the appointment and it was a waste of time. He is not knowledgeable, only tests TSH, ignored my list of symptoms. He ran a few labs that I demanded but he did not know what to do with the results. He adjusted meds and I landed in the ER within a week and went back to my old dose myself and waited several more months to get into to see someone else.

Awesome! Genuine concern, goes above and beyond to take time and answer any questions and concerns. Total trust in him. Gives the time you need, even if he is running behind and you are late waiting to see him. I waited over 45 minutes but, he still thru lunch gave me his time I needed. He has motivated me and I look forward to my next visit. #drspitzer,

Dr Spitzer did listen and writes notes on the laptop as I spoke. He reviewed his impressions and allowed me to comment with corrections. He outlined an approach that involved me in the health process. Endocrinology is about observation, testing, and determining from what I tell him, to tie in the relevant symptoms with a biological cause. It is not a simple take this pill and call me in two weeks. I did not arrive at my condition overnight, I prepared to work with him to correct what can be done

Dr. Spitzer is pessimistic. He doesn't seem to have faith in his patients. He tends to spend most of his time looking at the laptop instead of the patient sitting next to him. There is always a long wait. I've given this office a fair chance. Pickings are small in this area, but I will be going elsewhere from now on.
