Dr. Matthias Hofer, MD

Dr Hofer did real good in fixing my problem he did a urethral reconstruction. The only bad thing from all this is after the surgery I now have erectile disfunction and I have not been provided the correct medication or answer to why it affected me so badly.

I had a laparoscopic kidney obstruction surgery with Hoffer - it didn’t go well. It was extremely painful, with poor recovery , and needing multiple ER visits after.…but that’s not why I am leaving a bad review. It’s because of what happened afterA year after the surgery, my condition worsened. He said nothing could be done laparoscopically - only way to fix was to do open surgery (which is more invasive) or loose the kidney. I was skepticalSo I got a second opinion. The new doc re-did the surgery laparoscopically. I was out of hospital the same day, without needing much painkillers - kidney regained function, and has been operating well for a few years now without issueIf Hoffer knew he couldn’t do the surgery because he didn’t have the skills, he should have just referred me to another doctor. But instead he insisted that nothing can be doneNever go to this doc. He doesn’t care about you - he just cares about making money. Your life and well being is more important

I picked Dr. Hofer based on the good reviews here. However, my experience of seeing him did not support the good reviews. He kept me waiting for about 30 minutes, while the time he spent with me was no more than 10 minutes. Dr. Hofer showed little interest of learning about my medical situations. I asked him several questions, he answered in a perfunctory way. He seemingly does not understand the importance of seeking information from his patients and responding patient's concerns and questions. Dr. Hofer has good credentials, including a doctoral degree; however, what he lacks is an ability of effectively communicating with patients and showing his care. I don't recommend Dr. Hofer.

this is a bad dr. he should not be licensed. very neglectful. i would not want to put the life of my loved one in his care.

I've seen Dr. Hofer at NW for over a year. He performed surgery on me once. I found him to be a great doctor. He's apparently leaving NW in August 2020. I hope he will still be practicing somewhere in the Chicago area. The Urology department at NW can be a circus. Dr. Hofer and Dr. Schaeffer made it tolerable.

Was recommended by a fellow co-worker at NW Mem Hospital. Very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. Did surgery on me.

Dr. Hofer is great!! He took the time to explain & show me the reason for having the procedure. There are not many doctors that do that & this is how compassionate he is. I’ve been here several times & never had a problem. No waiting & he even called to give results. I’m definitely going to recommend.
