The Worst Of The Worst
The Worst Of The Worst !... I would NOT recommend this group or doctor to anyone. The office staff cancelled my first appointment two hours before the scheduled time. ... The future appointment was a disaster ! ... The 'call center' took my call and noted my inability to find the office; saying they would relay the information to the staff. I arrived at 2:34 where my appointment was for 2:30; the office already having all of my necessary paperwork in their posession. ... The receptoinist informed me of a need to 'reschedule' my appointment due to my being late. .... I asked to speak with the doctor and was immedaitely told NO ! ..... The group known as HMG is a calamity of errors as is this doctor's staff. ..... Stay away from this circus act and as far away from the clowns as is reasonably possible..... The doctor I spoke with immediately afterward noted Kingsport HMG as having a terrible reputation and was growing worse. .... Fore Warned is Fair Warned !

Horrible, and horrible receptionist.
They completely told me the wrong day to come. I took off work only to be called honey, and that my appointment was a different day. This was to get a new doctor, and after reading the reviews, I am glad I just left. Very unprofessional to be called honey at least three times. I'm sure bless your heart was next.

I find it difficult to understand the negative reviews as she is VERY ATTENTIVE and explains everything very well. I am 67 years of age and have had many doctors along the way that were arrogant, curt & spoke in highly technical medical jargon. She is an excellent physician in my view & I highly recommend Dr. Akins.

I don’t understand why there are so many negative reviews on here. Megan has always listened to me and has pretty much ordered any test I’ve requested. She is direct and to the point which I see as a positive. I wanted a bunch of unnecessary tests for peace of mind and she tried to talk me out of it to not waste my money but said she understood if it was just for peace of mind and went ahead and ordered them. I’ve been going to her for over 2 years and she’s always helpful.

It was difficult for me to find a doctor in this area who accepted my insurance and was accepting new patients. I was a little disconcerted by the negative reviews but when I read them carefully, ironically, it seemed like Megan would be a good fit for me. I want a doctor who doesn't waste my time. I don't need a hand holder or someone who is going to coddle me. I don't want a doctor to check every box on the lab sheet just" because" without considering the cost. I want a doctor who treats me with respect and who partners WITH me as I take responsibility for MY health care. Over the past two years, I have found Dr. A to be efficient, receptive to input, confident and thorough. If you are looking for a doctor to take control and listen to you moan for hours and order every test in the book just to cover herself legally...don't choose Dr. A. But if you are willing to be treated as an adult and want a conservative approach to medicine, I recommend Dr. A.

Dr. Akins is arrogant and dismissive. She took it upon herself to change a medication dosage without talking to me first. When I asked her to change it, she wrote it again for the wrong dosage, a dosage that was double the amount and that would have had an adverse impact on my health. I pointed this out to no avail. She gave me a choice between the two. I asked her what about do no harm, why would she change a medication for no medical reason? She looked at me with zero affect and then got up and left. Megan Akins is by far the worst I've encountered.

I am seeking a primary care physician and went to Dr. Akins twice. The first visit seemed rushed but I decided to give her a second chance. The second visit was worse. She was dismissive with my health concerns. I was there for a physical and she barley spent any time in the room. Further, if I had not complained of pain in my abdomen she would not have ordered labs. I thought labs were very common for a first time physical. I will not go back to Dr. Akins and I would advise anyone else to avoid her as well.

I've been a patient for a while but have finally had enough. She is an incredibly unhelpful doctor, spends about 5 minutes in the room with you, and on more than one occasion has just ignored me when I've talked to her about issues I have been having and pretended I didn't say anything at all.

Terrible physician - suggested anti-depressants for my 15 year old daughter when she was having menstrual issues. What!? She doesn't seem knowledgable and appears to dislike her job.

She is the worst Dr. I have seen. She has no compassion, treated me like I was bothering her by being there. All I heard was that she did not know about questions I had changing dr. immediately.

Worst experience with a physician ever. Not a physician. Merely a faulty cog in a broken system. Left the office before answering all questions and left the nurse to handle things. Indicated she knew next steps but when questioned could not produce answers. HMG should consider their reputation and whether it’s worth the risk of continuing their employment of her. She is an irresponsible box-ticker showing no ability to problem solve.

I have read these comments and I highly disagree. I have been a patient for several years. She is always attentive and knowledgeable. She takes care of all my needs. Yes she does check for drugs per state law requirements. But I have never seen this as an issue because I only take what’s prescribed. She goes out of her way to see a patient if it’s an emergency. She also doesn’t rush into any diagnosis until she has all the information. She always listens and gets my input. Great doctor

I have been seeing Dr. Akins for a few years now, and each time before I go in I think I'll give her another shot. Each time I leave, I ask myself why I continue to see her. For lack of better wording, she has very poor bedside manner. She is completely unhelpful when I go to see her for an ailment, even giving me counterproductive advice at one point. I think I've finally had enough with her. Time to fine someone new. Someone nice, and who actually cares, or at least pretends to care.

This was the worst experience I have ever had with a doctor. She was cold and mean. She negated everything I said. I almost cried! I paid money to get a doctor's help, but left more discouraged than ever. I do not recommend her, I highly recommend you find someone else--I know I am.
