Dr. Mehnaz Hyder, MD

Dr Hyder was the attending psychiatrist at El Camino for a loved one’s hospitalization and I had several meetings with her. In a very stressful time for our family, I found her to be rushed, uninformative and condescending . I would recommend avoiding her if at all possible.

Initially Dr, Hyder was very helpful, understanding and validating for my son, but after a few months she started focusing on issues totally unrelated to his medical needs. As a result he began to dread his visits with her and quit taking his medication. She also let my son's father think he was so dumb that the way he was treating our son was emotionally abusive regardless of all the evidence my son had shown her otherwise. When confronted she took a very defensive stance and broke the oath of confidentiality rather than apologize for her wrongdoing. Unfortunately, there is no recourse for the patient and given this was the second time a doctor failed to protect him from his abusive father’s behavior he swears he’ll no longer trust a doctor or therapist again.

Dr. Hyder is much more than a physician, she is a very caring person who takes the necessary steps to provide the best care. She is the first therapist/doctor my son can talk to and the improvement she has made in his life is heartwarming. She spent ample time with him before making a diagnosis or prescribing medicine. Most significantly, she hasn't just treated our son, she has addressed how mine and my ex husband's behaviors have impacted his life and what our responsibilities are to aid in his treatment. She has addressed issues that far too many other therapists and doctors turned a blind eye to and as a result there is a lot of healing taking place and she does it in a way that isn't threatening, shameful or judgmental.

She misdiagnosed my son and caused almost irreparable damage with the incorrect diagnosis. His school suggested that I never return to her office. You have a choice… Choose another physician.
