Victim or exploiter of our broken HC system?
I totally agree with all the 1 star reviews. I m sorry, but she has all the sensitivity of a rock. I felt like a grammar school kid being scolded for not doing the will of the teacher. I am an intelligent, educated adult with knowledge of my own body , but my concerns were dismissed . Her knowledge, or communication of it, is woefully inadequate and incomplete. Ex- she prescribed high dose vit D but didn’t say a word about vit K which needs to be taken for proper absorption. It is a challenge for all of us to function within all that is broken these days, but she seemed to be phoning it in. I make more of an effort in my much less financially lucrative career. Office staff and the nurse were very nice.

Very thorough and very competent
From the very first visit she presented as competent, informed regarding medications and potential medical issues. She spent a good deal of time with me during each visit. Dr. Maxwell is confident in her opinions of what would be the best course but also listened to my input and adjusted the time schedule of her treatment plan. Her referrals are responsive --they have promptly called me to make the appointments after the referrals were made . I have since then had a few more visits to Dr. Maxwell's office and I am still very impressed with her and her staff. I highly recommend.

Terrible
The first time I saw Dr. Maxwell I was pretty impressed because she had read my entire file. The second time I saw her she was rude abrupt and made me feel like a hysterical female trying to get medical care.. I have had complications from my pregnancy and birth that have needed careful monitoring, and she completely dismissed me, and then forgot that I had already been tested twice for an ongoing issue. Finally, after writing a prescription for me and having my insurance deny it because they needed a reconsideration form—her office apparently refuses to do any kind of appeals for medication they write and instead want me to go to an expensive endocrinologist and start all over for a condition they’ve been monitoring for a year..

MAX wellness with Dr. Maxwell!
I’ve been going to Dr. Maxwell for years now and she has been amazing. All my numbers are good now and I’m feeling very healthy. I’m picky about meds I take and the doctor always has multiple solutions. She takes time to listen, but she’s not going to let you slack off. Sometimes there’s a bit of a wait in the afternoons, but I think it’s bc the doctor really takes time with the patients that need it.

Make sure you ARE ON TIME. New patient - requested that I be there 30 mins. in advance. Somewhat aggressive since most docs ask for 15 mins to fill out forms etc. I got there at 9:15 for a 9:30 appt and this doctor refused to see me. I was told by the receptionist that that is her protocol. Soooo, I had an appt but didn’t get to see the doctor. In all honesty I can’t attest to what kind of doctor she is but judging by some of the comments that she is aggressive and rude, I also just got the impression that she is inflexible. Big red flag. I guess you have to get there 30 mins in advance, fill out forms for 10 mins and then sit there for another 20 mins. until your actual appointment? I’m not working right now but if you are, make sure you leave yourself a lot of time if you choose to see this doctor. I won’t be rescheduling.

My last visit with Dr. Maxwell was the worst experience I've ever had with a medical professional. Due to the pandemic, I hadn't been to see her in over a year. Her first words to me when she walked into the room were "I'm not happy with you," and it only got worse from there. How is this at all a decent way to start a conversation with someone, especially someone you don't know well? Particularly given the state of the world, and the tremendous loss and sadness that has happened over the past year. She had no idea what had happened in my life, how I was, anything. She was rude, callous, accusatory, and just unkind. I told her she made me feel unsafe, and that I would not allow her to treat me. She was clearly agitated that I set that boundary, and made comments about me as she left the room. It's a shame, because the office staff and the nurse that checked me in were so lovely! I wish that supportive spirit was also in the actual doctor.

Of the doctors I've seen in New Orleans, Dr. Maxwell has been the most attentive and thorough. When I needed to get tested for COVID, she made sure that I also received a chest x-ray. Even after I needed to go to the emergency room for additional care, she was at times more attentive than the doctor working directly with me because "my need was not as great as other patients." When my employment situation changed and found out that I would have to relocate, one of the first things I thought about was "man, now I have to find a new doctor." I truly appreciate Dr. Maxwell. My wife and I will definitely be sad to go and start this process again. I find it hard to believe that Dr. Maxwell is ever rude. She may be brutally honest at times, but it's never malicious. When it comes to my health and safety I want nothing but the WHOLE TRUTH. So I would recommend Dr. Maxwell any day.

Dr. Maxwell's LPN Ryan was very rude to me after lying about trying to contact me and then hung up on me back in April 2019. Now in the later part of September I get a call from the Crescent City Physicians Manager that I am no longer a patient of Dr. Maxwell!!! No prior notice. Very unprofessional and has caused me great anxiety. The only reason I can think of that I would be dismissed is my disagreement with her LPN Ryan back in April, and since the Manager stated she had tried to reach me in April, that must be the reason. You cannot trust her if she will abandon a patient because her LPN is rude and catty. Also, her referrals were 90% horrible.

Disappointed – Sep 21, 2019
×Post a ResponseAre you Dr. Maxwell?
Communication is terrible and she is hard to get into contact with. I have never spoken with her over the phone and you cannot email her. If you need something you call, talk to a receptionist, they take a message, then maybe you get a call back within the day, sometimes no call. Often staff answering phones are rushed and hard to understand. She seemed caring at the beginning but I have had several appointments where she was rude, downright mean, dismissive, and mocking. She has refused me refills stating that I need to make an appointment to get one, but she has nothing open for 3 weeks at a time. I needed anti-viral medication, she knows my situation and did not prescribe the correct dosage, I called to ask about it and got no response. I have a lot of discomfort from the outbreak and the stress of dealing with her office compounds my condition. It's depressing and hard to deal with, and she makes no attempt at actual care. I am looking for another primary care physician. Be warned

Dr. Maxwell has been my physician for many years. She is very thorough and she tells it like it is. I like that about her. I had cancer several years ago and had it not been for Dr. Maxwell to send me for more testing I would have never known that I had cancer. She was one of a group of physicians that helped save my life when I was hospitalized in 2011. I am forever grateful to Dr. Maxwell.

Poor communication among the staff, hard to get into contact with, lost my refill requests, and had a horrible experience. When I had a problem that was urgent Dr. Maxwell just had nurses call me and I'd never get a call back when they relayed the message to her. Never had a bad experience with a Dr. and I'm not one to leave a poor review unless it is warranted.

When I saw Dr. Maxwell for a new patient appointment, she seemed professional and caring. However, when I scheduled an urgent appointment Dr. Maxwell had a rude demeanor as soon as she came in the room. She interrupted me multiple times. She responded to my concerns and issues in a mocking and sarcastic tone. I started crying because of the condescending way she was acting towards me, and she didn’t even apologize. Unprofessional and not empathic towards patients with mental illnesses.

I have been seeing Dr Maxwell for two years now and I've been so grateful to have her as my doctor. She's extremely thorough and spends more time with me than any doctor I've ever seen. I'm nervous with doctors, but she's so friendly, kind, and professional, she puts me at total ease. I've recommended her to friends who are now her patients and would recommend her to anyone who is in need of a thoughtful, caring primary care physician.

I've been a patient for several years now. At first, she was a conventional physician. Now, I question her judgement. Now, she seems all about money. I have a health condition that I've written on every document I've completed for her that had never been put in their computers and when I ask for simple accommodations (like lying down instead of sitting up for shots or injections), I have to argue with her and her staff about it.

When I first started going to Dr. Maxwell she was very helpful and friendly. However my last few appointments have been so dreadful that I will be looking for another physician. Her rude and annoyed demeanor was unwelcoming. She didn't know much about me and my appointment even though I've been seeing her regularly for my annual and gyno appointment for 6 years! Her short and unprofessional tone with her nursing staff was unwarranted. Those nurses and office staff are more attentive than her!

Dr. Maxwell refused to see me today (a long standing patient of hers) for being 15 minutes late (thought appt was at time I showed up), even though she would have no problem expecting a patient of hers to wait way more than 15 minutes. I had to pay to park for nothing because she refused to see me. My first impression of her was that she was very abrupt and rude, other visits she was complimentary, but now rude behavior again. What she did today was very inconsiderate and unprofessional.
