Wonderful Experience. My new knee is excellent
Why I waited 3 years of soreness and limping before taking action with my knee, I have no excuse. Finally I went to UVM orthopedics and saw Dr Blankstein who explained everything prior to surgery. Thanks to his expertise I was fully on my new knee without crutches or any other support 3 weeks post op. Prior to surgery I consulted with several of Dr Blankstein’s surgical patients who had similar excellent experiences. Presently I am 6 months, post op, and I have no awareness of an artificial knee except for a minimal scar. The hospital staff and rehab staff were also excellent and no doubt reflect Dr Blanksteins dedication to excellence. It was a wonderful experience for this 84 year old patient.

Excellent Surgeon, Physician and caring doctor.
It is my distinct pleasure to write this account of my experience with Dr. Michael Blankstein. I was referred to Dr. Blankstein for consultation for a extremely painful and advanced deterioration of my right hip from osteoarthritis and avascular necrosis. Due to a set of medical circumstances and setbacks my condition was quite far advanced and I had become significantly deconditioned with inability to move without severe pain. Dr. Blankstein was reassuring and kind during the initial consultation and once the surgery had been scheduled his nurse and staff were extremely helpful and supportive in coordinating what turned out to be a smooth and completely positive experience and outcome. I cannot express my gratitude for Dr. Blankstein's bedside manner and proficiency in addressing my condition and allowing me to regain the use of my hip and to walk again. It is without reservation that I recommend Dr. Blankstein. With thanks and gratitude,Debbie Gianelli & Philip Gianelli MD

left and right knee replacement
Dr. Blackstein, his office staff, and hospital staff were amazing. I had a left knee replacement in May 2024, and my right knee in October 2024. prior to surgery I was in constant pain in both knees and sciatic issues, unable to walk for any distance on any hard surface, I could not go up or down stairs normally. After having both knees replaced stairs are no longer an issue I am able to go for walks, snowshoe, ride a stationary bike, all without pain in either knee, and sciatic issue has disappeared.

Hip Replacement
Dr. Blankstein did my hip replacement on October. He didn't push me into having surgery but let me decide when the time was right. He is a very positive person and made me feel at ease. I had a lot of questions and anxiety and he responded to all my calls and emails promptly. He did an excellent job. I am very happy.

Top doc in Northern Vermont for knee replacement
Experience is important and Dr. Blankstein is highly rated in this area. The decision to take the step of knee surgery was made after a thorough discussion with the doctor and we are very pleased with the results. The pre surgical education and support helped prepare for a successful outcome - minimal post operative discomfort, rapid healing with PT, and full use of the repaired knee within a few months. Looking forward to having the second knee done sooner rather than later. Grateful for Dr. Blankstein and his staff for a very positive experience.

I have recommended him.
He is an excellent surgeon. He saved my life and gave me the chance to walk again. His surgical skills are incredible. I saw him for a revision of a fractured femur and hip replacement. He is outstanding! I was looking at a lifetime of handicap and he has given me a second chance to live, walk, and move again. Nothing short of miraculous. Of course it was due to his amazing skill as a physician.

Dr. Blankstein and staff were professional and informative from the first appointment to the latest follow up. Dr. Blankstein spoke in plain English so I understood everything. I was given plenty of opportunity to ask questions. I have already recommended Dr. Blankstein to all my friends and family.

Total right hip replacement July 2024
I was certain that I would still have problems with walking with pain AFTER the hip replacement. I was thrilled to be completely wrong. Just hours after surgery, I could stand, walk and climb steps completely without joint pain. Muscular and soft tissue pain is so much easier to tolerate, so recovery was so much better than I anticipated. To be able to sit down, stand up, walk on uneven ground, climb into my car and rotate my hips in ANY direction without blinding pain is beyond wonderful. I can sleep lying flat on a bed without pillows arranged to stabilize my pelvic angle. I can sleep in my back, stomach or side. Prior to hip replacement surgery, the only way I could sleep at all was in my power recliner. That was very poor quality of sleep too.I was not the ideal candidate for hip replacement. I was not physically fit and I was 100 lbs over my ideal weight. Four months post surgery, I am happily spending time in the woods with my hounds and my husband.

Left hip replaced
I woke from surgery with no pain I was up waking 2 hr post op I did everything PT told me to do and I was walking and feeling great as each day went by. Just follow the plan they go over with you and it works. I have my life back 4 months out from surgery snd I walk 2-3 miles per day without any pain. I stretch 4 times per day. I am so happy to have my life back. I had the anterior approach with a spinal done and it went fantastic. Don’t live with hip pain go get your life back. I was scared but I had very limited range of motion and needed that hip replaced. So I did it and it is the best thing for my overall health and I’m going great.I am most thankful dr Blankstein did this and I do tell people go to him get your life back.

Hip Replacement
Dr. Blankstein and the staff at UVM Medical Center were excellent for my hip replacement surgery. It has been 5 months since surgery and I feel SO MUCH better. My only regret is waiting as long as I did. If you are considering getting a hip replacement - fear not, the process moves along quickly and the pain you have been feeling goes away.

New Hip New Life (Anterior Hip Replacement)
I was unable to walk around our house without assistance from a cane and was in pain always while trying to move about. Being an active person prior to injuring my hip, I couldn't see myself using a cane the rest of my life since I am only 66 years old. I had surgery four months ago now and my hip is perfect! I am able to do anything that I did previously without any pain at all. Admittedly, the first couple of days after surgery wasn't fun. Recovery is quick and the pain associated with my original hip was gone when I left the hospital. I would highly recommend Dr. Blankstein for this surgery. He is thorough, personable and an excellent surgeon.

OUTSTANDING total hip replacement
If I could give 10 stars I would!!! After months of intense pain, Dr. Blankstein did my total left hip replacement on April 15, 2024. The surgery took less than 2 hours, and I was up walking and doing stairs before my husband could get into recovery. I have been TOTALLY pain free since I left the hospital (same day). He took the time to explain the procedure and expected outcome. Dr. Blankstein and his team were very thorough and efficient throughout the whole process. I feel better than I have in years, I have my life back! I highly recommend Dr. Blankstein. Don't wait and suffer!

Total knee replacement
Extremely satisfied with my new knee. I was in good hands from start to finish. I felt he listened, we discussed options with no undo pressure to go 'under the knife,' yet in the end surgery was the only course of action. I followed his direction to the best of my ability, went through the physical therapy and it hurt, yet it's just three months after surgery and I can't get over there is 'next to no' discomfort, the scar is hardly visible (not like I've seen on others that have had knee surgery), I'm walking at my normal pace without the assistance of a walker or cane, able to do housework and even some landscaping outside. Yes, I am finally on my way to a more normal self. Dr. Blankstein, and his staff, are top shelf and I would recommend them for any knee issues that need to be addressed. Thank you.

Successful hip operation
Dr Blankstein was clear and precise as he answered questions. As we reviewed my X-rays he helped me understand the problem that surgery would solve. Recognizing the limited time doctors have to answer multiple questions and concerns a patient might have, it was reassuring to learn that his intake and logistics staff were also excellent. They were thorough, taking time to answer questions and concerns.I very much appreciate Dr. Blankstein's skill as a surgeon and that my recovery was much faster than I thought it would be.

Successful Total Knee Replacement
Dr. Blankstein performed a total knee replacement of my right knee in March of 2024. It's a tough surgery and recovery was long and at time painful, but I now have far better function in my knee than I did even 10 or 20 years before.
