Still the King of Hernia Surgery !!!
You want someone who tells you where its at , with confidence, intelligence, and straightforward candor. Had my large Bi Lateral Hernias completed and have confidence that i will heal according to schedule. Process was smooth, with praise to the accompanying staff at the Amb Surg Unit at SIUH. Follow up visit and discussion with Maggy Ravkin was detailed , informative and comforting.

In my opinion always get a second opinion & alw
I went to Dr. Castellano to rule out a hernia, when he examined me, he said you have a hernia, he said it was small and not to wait too long to do surgery or it could get strangulated. I really wasn’t prepared to hear that & asked him to do imaging he said no you don’t need it, It’s a waste of money & I can feel it. I did schedule a surgery which I later cancelled, When I left my mom asked me if I told him I had a bilateral hernia as an infant & of course I forgot all about it. I was able to reach him & had a bunch of questions & wanted to make him aware of what happened when I was a baby & asked again – shouldn’t I do imaging, again he adamantly said no I already told you it’s a waste of time I can feel it, he was going into the operating room & directed me to his PA for further inquiries. I luckily decided to go for a second opinion to another sturgeon – lots of testing & I have no hernia !!!

Second opinion
I went to Dr. Castellano for a second opinion and his first words were I see that you have seen one of my colleagues. I knew then this was not going to be a second opinion. He just read the report from his “colleague”. Now I know why my primary always for two decades said to go anywhere but Staten Island for a specialist.

Terrific Doctor, way competent!!!!!!!!
Dr. Castellano successfully repaired three hernias that were killing me, (separate surgeries). He answers all questions and takes the time until you understand what you are facing. The entire experience with Dr. was a nice smooth operation.

My husband just had hernia surgery with Dr. Castellano. From the first visit in late February, through the post op visit we have only good thing a to say. Dr. Castellano is know, edgable and took the time to answer all of our questions. The day of surgery he spoke with us and explained clearly what we were to expect. We were prepared for the recovery. Dr. Castellanos office staff, too are very nice, patient and so very easy to work with. All in all, for surgery, great experience!

I visited Dr. Castellano in Dec 2017. I have 2 masters degrees yet he spoke to me like I had no more than an elementary school education. I explained to him that I wanted a second opinion and recalibration of current medications that I was taking. He was abrasive, dismissive, condescending, and down right rude. He rolled his eyes at me and shrugged his shoulders as I sought answers to some basic questions about asthma and even told my 84 year old mother, "I'm not going to repeat myself". I under
