Skilled and Caring Physician
Dr Castine has been treating my family members for the past 20 years. He is kind, compassionate, patient and understanding in his bedside manner. He is also a skilled oncologist, as evidenced by his successful practice. I have been a licensed healthcare professional for 40 years, and I believe that the recent negative reviews are all being posted by the same person who has an ax to grind. All, but one of them are anonymous, and if you read them, they all sound as if they are written in a unique way by the same individual.

With 20 years in treatment for Leukemia I feel the need to comment or review. My previous Dr. retired and I was referred by my Primary Dr to Dr. CASTINE. I have had a wonderful experience with this clinic for the last 6 months. Yes, some things are handled differently, but ALL things change in time. I have not experienced any of the negative reviews mentioned.

Personally saw
I personally witnessed the neglect and abandonment of the family whose member passed away. Dr Castine and the institution and other doctors who refused him a medical oncologist should face harsh disciplinary action. There is truly no excuse for such actions being deemed acceptable. If they are will your family member be the next helpless victim.

Very Concerned
First of all where is this doctors morals. Definitely not with patient care. Makes you question how many other doctors are being allowed by Baton Rouge General to conduct patient care and treatment virtually hands off. This is a very dangerous practice that the Louisiana Health Department should look into. If you are a patient or the family member of a patient you deserve respect a physician that is present and an institution that fights for these rights. None of which is present in this scenario.

Shocked
A family member has been seeing him for several months. Much has changed since our first visit. At first, he and the office staff seemed involved with the care, but later didn't take questions or comments on what I was seeing with my loved one seriously or follow up with relevant testing that could have resulted in potential treatment. Having this issue with hospitalization brought to light, who would see and treat my loved one when hospitalized? Patients deserve to have their oncologist see them and treat them while in the hospital. How a hospital can allow a cancer patient to not be seen by their oncologist or any oncologist is perplexing, wreck less, and uncaring.

Avoid at all costs
Compassion and patient care has gone into the toilet. It is hard enough watching your person slowly fade away, but to have to deal with an absentee oncologist who couldn't care less just makes everything unnecessarily harder. He and his 'group' need to go back to when they actually cared more about their patients than maintaining that rep and real estate gains. I'm glad he was a decent doctor to these other reviewers but he drop kicked my loved one into a dark corner and didnt even bother to acknowledge his death. You are wrong for how he was treated. Do better.

No compassion!
I had first hand experience of the false hope and lack of compassion from this doctor. He does not follow-up with patients, he does not see his patients admitted to the hospital, he does not have anyone to cover for him to see his hospital admitted patients and patients are basically abandoned to be managed by general doctors instead of their oncologists. Dr. Castine treated my family as a number and not a person. Find a doctor that cares for their patients.

Lacks moral and ethical inappropriateness
My husband became a patient of Dr Castine in January 2023 for metastatic colon cancer. The first several months were very good seemed really compassionate. As time went on I would say to Dr Castine that something just wasn’t right with my husband. The answer each time was his numbers look good so. No need for scans or additional testing. Time went on an I kept saying the same thing numbers look good but he was not looking at my husband as an individual. Twice in February my husband was admitted to baton rouge general hospital. Only upon being admitted were we informed that Dr Castine did not see he his patients when admitted but no one from the group he was a member of would touch them either. I found out that this had been the case since December 2023. This was never disclosed to his patients. As a matter of fact it was termed patient abandonment by the covering internal medicine doctor my husband did not fit into Dr Castine criteria box and now he is dead. Be cautious.

One of the most compassionate and caring doctors you will ever meet. Treats you like family, answers all your questions, explains in detail everything you need to know about the what’s, why’s, and when’s of your condition. Extremely gentle in his approach...absolutely love him?? Handled my elderly sister with such kindness, her anxiety level about her cancer melted away.
