Dr. Michael Compton, MD

Would have given five stars, loved Dr. Compton, front desk staff was just dismissive and rude. They were definitely doing you a favor taking your information. No courtesy, no good mornings, no thank yous. Just treated you like one of the herd. One woman was excitedly telling one of the receptionists about how she had a new puppy. The woman half smiled, nodded her head, and refused to engage with her. Seeing the complaints from others about the desk staff, this is pretty par for the course. Update: after posting this review, their office manager called and was extremely nice, offered me her direct line to book future appointments, and told me they were very sorry. Moved up my review from 3 stars to 4.

Dr Compton is excellent. He's a great technician/surgeon and at the same time very approachable. He takes the time necessary to be sure to answer all questions to insure greater understanding on part of patient. He did my cataract surgery and even though a little complicated he managed everything perfectly. He's absolutely the very best.

I feel Dr. Compton is knowledgable and thorough. He explained the procedure of my cataract surgery and the range of results for those who had prior lasek surgery. After the surgery on the first eye which was very successful, he wanted to get additional measurements to be sure that the next would be optimum. Everything was the same and I had excellent results again. Dr. Compton answered every question I had before and after the procedure. I never felt rushed. I would recommend him, especially, for those with previous lasek. He is up on the research.

Expect to get his bill promptly, but if you have a problem post surgery, you will never hear from him. His reception staff will not provide you with a date for a visit in the event of an emergency...They will also no respond to any problem left on the emergency line. You are in this alone...very alone!

I’ve been seeing DR Compton for years, and have always been extremely pleased with his exams and the eyeglasses/contacts from the Optical Shop. This year, I needed cataract surgery and was nervous to have it done. DR Compton alleviated every fear I had, and walked me through the process during every pre-op visit. The surgeries on both eyes was easy and painless, and my vision post surgery is spectacular. I absolutely give DR Compton the highest rating possible, and have recommended him to family and friends. They share my high opinion of him as well. His bedside manner is also wonderful….he explains everything in great detail, in plain English. After speaking with him, it is evident he is highly educated and skilled in ophthalmology.

Not the worst, not the best.

Though I it is a very very busy, Dr. Compton was extremely pleasant and overall my experience with him was really great. I didn't feel rushed at all. Dr. Compton explained everything clearly and I felt I was in extremely competent hands. I hope to stay with him for all my visits.

My mother came to visit and got stuck due to the Covid-19 situation. She needed a long overdue eye checkup. She doesn’t speak any english which discouraged her from seeing any doctors. However, an issue with her eyesight required her to seek medical care immediately. Understandably, we were concerned. I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist at Wake Ophthalmology. Our original doctor was so busy with other patients, so the front desk staff helped to arrange for my mom to see Dr. Compton. We were very grateful that he agreed to see us on such short notice. Dr. Compton was able to quickly diagnose my mother. He was very empathetic with my mother’s situation and urged the front desk staff to make an appointment with him as soon as possible. The procedure was quick, accurate, and successful. My mother was so happy with the results and was deeply impressed with Dr. Compton’s professional manner and expertise. I have nothing but praise for Dr. Compton and his team.

I was referred by my optometrist to this practice around 3 pm on a Friday afternoon. They not only were able to work me in despite having a full schedule and it being late on a Friday, but Dr. Compton correctly diagnosed my problem. I had a retinal tear which was a visual emergency. He referred me to Carolina Retina and I was able to have the surgery to repair the tear that same afternoon. Dr. Compton was great. He was very thorough in his exam, explained everything clearly, was patient, and answered all my questions. Thanks to him, my vision was saved. I'm now a regular patient and recently had cataract surgery done by Dr. Compton. He was great about explaining all my options, the pros and cons of each, and what to expect. The surgery was seamless, and I now can see clearly for the first time in years. I went with the Panoptix lens and am thrilled with the outcome. I highly recommend Dr. Compton for his expertise, patience, bedside manner, and thoroughness.

Dr Compton is my hero. He listened to what I wanted and he delivered. I needed cataract surgery and I wanted monvision which I had been used to for many years, Finally I have it again. One eye for distance and the other for reading. No more glasses. I love it!!!

Recently had eye surgery. Dr. Compton had a great bedside manor and always took time to answer my questions and concerns. He was professional and thorough during my eye exams. I never had to wait for my appointments. Would definitely recommend Dr.Compton.

Wonderful and caring physician! I had a fantastic outcome from my cataract surgery!

Had to book a month and a half in advance. On the day of the appt I waited an hour in the waiting room before being called back. Had my eyes dialeted and waited another 45 minutes. Nobody showed. I then had to leave due to other commitments. Had a similar experience at this practice with another doctor. I question the ethics of doctors who overbook so excessively. They are merely chasing profits and not providing quality medical care. Avoid Wake Opthamology.
