Dr. Michael Gershon, DO

I saw Dr. Gershon at the Northwestern urgent care in Deerfield because my left leg was swollen and entirely discolored. After doing some mobility tests he told me he had never seen anything like it (exactly what you want to hear from a doctor). I asked him if it could be a blood clot and he said definitely not. I went to the ER and was almost immediately diagnosed with a blood clot and hospitalized for three days. I shared my urgent care experience with my care team in the ER and at the hospital and they all told me it was pretty obvious that's what it was and to never go to that urgent care facility again. While I understand Dr. Gershon didn't have the tools necessary to definitively diagnose me, it's concerning that he didn't even mention the possibility of a blood clot until I asked. I would not feel comfortable with anyone I care about seeing him as a doctor.

Dr. Gershon is thorough and empathetic. He reviewed my extensive medical record from recent months because I have had a number of health concerns and have struggled to find answers. Unfortunately, when you have chronic health concerns, other health issues have a tendency to crop up and when doctors see a long laundry list of testing and medical issues, it’s common to be dismissed. I’ve seen many doctors recently because, unfortunately, the more doctors you see, the less time they spend on your chart since they figure everyone else has already seen you, they run the same labs, and this builds up to spending a lot of time in medical offices without actually getting much treatment. I see the other reviews here and will say that I am confident that this doctor took the time to review my chart and would prefer a thorough assessment to being blown off or dismissed. I would view those complaints as additional evidence of this doctor’s thoroughness, which is what you want in a physician.

not sure what the other reviewers are talking about. i had a perfectly lovely experience with dr G. he explained everything well and diligently performed his physical exam. he even had some good extra info about my chronic issue that most docs aren’t that familiar with. i have no complaints.

was coughing badly, bad sore throat, doctor was outstanding, took time, answer all my questions. dr gershon had great bed side personality .

I would agree with the other comments written about this physician and also had a negative experience with him. He rushed to judgement and immediately sent me to the hospital. The ER found no significant issues (flu like symptoms) and I was released without any treatment or medication and no need to be concerned and to simply get additional rest. However, I was sent a very large medical invoice. I have since found others have had a negative experience as well when visiting the immediate care facility and this specific physician. I would suggest finding a different immediate care facility or at least request another physician at this facility should he be assigned to you.

Dr. Gershon has a haughty, condescending attitude. Unfortunately, I found him dismissive of my issues. I had to ask him to listen to my breathing a second time before he actually heard what I'd been referring to. He's too quick and cocky, in my opinion. The PA (a female, Anna) I'd seen at Immediate Care a couple of days prior was FAR better - better listener, much more patient, calm and unhurried. I'd take her any day over Dr. Gershon.

I just had a horrible experience with Dr. Gershon. I took my 4 year old to see him at the Deerfield Immediate Care for a strep test because I knew it was going around school and she complained of a sore throat and was vomiting this morning. He palpated her stomach and she said it hurt. He told me I had to take her to the ER immediately for appendicitis or else he would take her into custody. I took her to the ER, and they said he never should have treated me that way. She was perfectly fine
