The wait is worth it!! Amazing Doctor.
I cannot express enough how life-changing my experience with Dr. Leahy has been. From the moment I walked into the office, I felt completely supported and understood. Dr. Leahy took the time to listen to my concerns, thoroughly explain my condition, and provide a treatment plan that was tailored to my needs. The care and attention to detail were beyond anything I expected. Not only has my pain been dramatically reduced, but I’ve also regained mobility and a better quality of life. Dr. Leahy has a genuine compassion for their patients and truly goes above and beyond to make sure you're comfortable throughout every step of the process. I am so grateful for their expertise and dedication. If you're looking for a spine doctor who will provide exceptional care and make a real difference in your life, look no further! Everyone wants to complain about the wait times but honestly I think it just confirms what a great doctor he is! He does not rush through the appointments!

Changed my life
Dr. Leahy changed my life - my standard of living was poor. I was mostly confined to a chair as that was the only place I could be without mind-numbing pain. I didn't think I would ever be able to do 'normal' things again. I took a chance and on the first visit he did X-rays, found my problem and said there was a procedure that could work on someone like me. After the surgery my pain was greatly reduced and I could walk again for more than 1 minute. Within 6 weeks I was up to 90 minutes and feeling great. There have been some bumps in my recovery (took a nasty fall and ended up hurting my L4) but Dr. Leahy has been the quarterback of my health care recovery. Dr. Leahy never gave up on me through any of this process.I cannot recommend Dr. Leahy anymore than telling people that he changed my life in everyway possible. Go see him. Now.

Perfect outcome!
I made arrangements to meet with the highly regarded spine surgeon in The Woodlands, Dr. Michael J. Leahy regarding my severe leg pain.My wife is handicapped and I am her sole caregiver. I did not have the option of a surgery with a lengthy recovery. He told me in detail what he was going to perform on my lower spine. He said he would be removing a cyst attached to my spine and removing bone chips that were compressing my nerves causing my excruciating pain. Obviously, the 1 hour operation was painless. I spent the night at the hospital and was released the next morning. I am totally pain free and was swimming 2 weeks later!!I was able to take care of my wife within 2 days of the surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Michael Leahy for any back issues. He makes every effort to avoid surgery but if that is the solution…..he is the BEST.I am pain free at last. He has given me my life back. I highly recommend him and his office.

Best spine surgeon!
I don't ever take the time to write a review but felt compelled to after my visit with Dr. Leahy. I'm older so I've seen my share a doctors and usually don't have much of an opinion as long as I get better from why I was in the clinic. I had a to wait a bit to get put back into a patient room but it was worth the wait! I was impressed from the initial introduction by his friendliness, professionalism and genuine interest in my pain. He took time to listen to why I was there and explain a few reasons for my chronic pain. He suggested a conservative plan which made me comfortable that he didn't go straight to surgery. I am trying this route but if surgery is in the future there wouldn't be another spine surgeon I would even consider.

Dr Leahy is great, but his staff isn't
Dr Leahy is great, but it's impossible to get his PA on the phone, she didn't give me any information on what they needed before surgery, and I didn't get the form they wanted until 2 days before. Surgery was cancelled due to a bad number on my labs. I've since gotten new labs, and the number in question is much better. If they had reviewed my labs before the day before surgery, I could have gotten new labs, and surgery could have happened. Instead, I am forced to start over with a new doctor, and live with significant pain for much longer.

Spinal surgery
Telehealth
Dr Leahy has done two spinal fusion surgeries on me. Lower back & cervical. He did the cervical as I was nearly paralyzed on a clinic day as it was an emergency. Was able to go to Europe 22 days later. He’s a good guy & surgeon.

Don't go there unless you have a day to waste
I had heard good things about this Dr. BUT when I went for consultation for back surgery I waited over an hour and a half and had to leave- never saw him. If you cannot see your patients in a timely manner, change your scheduling practice! Yours is NOT the only time that is valuable. I would NEVER recommend this Dr.

Waiting room time 90-120 min! – Apr 24, 2024

I cannot praise Dr. Leahy enough!! I went to him after my motorcycle season ended with a list of complaints. I am a former road racer and had an on-track incident at over 100mph that caused lateral whiplash. My first appointment the staff took X-rays and after a few minutes Dr. Leahy was looking over the results with me. He explained what he observed, and ordered up MRI’s while he informed he would take a conservative approach with my lower back. He ordered 3 MRI’s for my neck, right shoulder, and lower back. Once they received & reviewed my MRI results, I was scheduled in within a week. Now…Dr. Leahy is one of the best and has a very busy schedule, so you will have to wait a bit for him to get to your room, but when he does, he goes over what his plans are. He is one of the most optimistic Dr’s I have ever met. He’s straightforward and to the point. A few days before my scheduled surgery, I received calls for pre-op bloodwork/work-up, and for a lower back brace. He performed lower back surgery (L5-S1) on Dec 28th at the TOPS surgery center. I was well taken care of. Before I knew it I was out of surgery and in recovery. Dr. Leahy went over what was completed with my sister, who I gave permission to, as she is in the medical field. I am now 6 weeks post-op and feel better. The radiating pain has dissipated and now I have an artificial disc replacement scheduled for Feb 22nd.

So late I left and got a refund
My review is based on my scheduled appt for today, 1/29/24, and pre-surgery/surgery/post-surgery appointments/treatment with Dr. Leahy in 2014. I had surgery performed by Dr. Leahy in 2014, and he is a wonderful doctor with a thoughtful bedside manner. His downfall is with his office’s appointment management. When I saw him in 2014, I would almost always have to plan for his office to be running 1-2 hours behind. I have had a new orthopedic issue arise, and since he had a different location, I skeptically decided to give him another try, hoping he’d improved his scheduling practices. Sure enough, same thing as before: got there 15 minutes early, waited an hour after my scheduled appointment time, and began asking others around if they were also waiting to see Dr. Leahy. Five people confirmed they were, and that it was common to wait 1-2 hours before being seen. I went to the front and asked for a refund, which was politely granted, and I will not be returning.

Dr. Leahy has performed 2 surgeries on me. My lower back in 2013 and my neck in November 2021. Both surgeries have been a big success! I no longer have constant lower back pain, which I had for years before the surgery. My neck surgery went well and I am pain free as well. Dr. Leahy explains procedures were well, has a great bedside manner, and is very personable. I have referred several family members and friends to Dr. Leahy and he has helped them as well! He is my personal hero! I would recommend him 100%.

Bring a Lunch!!!!! This is what you better bring when you see this doctor. It is not uncommon to wait two hours or more to see him. I realize he has surgery days and likes to be detailed when explaining to patients of their condition, issue, etc., but he should tell his appointment staff to allocate more time for each appointment. During the second week of December, he stopped seeing patients in his office and only performs surgery (according to his appointment desk). Between only surgery and booking as many patients as possible, I am curious to know if he is there for the patients or his financial status. My wife had surgery with him in June and the problem has not gone away. We went to another doctor for a second opinion and have been told by others Dr. Leahy likes to take care of one surgery at a time to have repeats.

If you want a doctor that chooses the quantity of patients he sees over the quality of care he gives…this is the doctor for you. If you want your appointments cancelled then rescheduled for a month later, then when you do go for your appointment you have to see the assistant (even though you specified you wanted the appointment with the doctor) because the doctor scheduled surgery (and not emergency surgery) during your appointment time…this is the doctor for you. If you want a doctor that knows you are in tremendous pain and losing the function of your arm and the doctor says, ‘this needs to be taken care of right away’, then MONTHS down the road you still have not been scheduled for surgery because the doctor’s schedule is full…this is the doctor for you. If you want a doctor that actually cares for his patients and follows his Hippocratic Oath of ‘first, do no harm’, this is NOT the doctor for you.

As of today, April 3, 2020, the results of my surgery of December 4, 2019 are inconclusive. The initial problem was corrected but now I have chronic and sometimes debilitating pain and numbness radiating from point of the surgery. The doctor is chronically late for appointments, the office staff is almost always inaccessible and take days to return calls when messages are left. As I am typing this review I am waiting over 2.5 hours for an internet conference call that was scheduled for "between 8:30 and 11 AM". It's now 11:02 AM. Nothing.
