Robotic - Treats you like a number
I liked Dr. Melgar at first, but the more I went to him, the more I realized he sees patients as numbers, not people. Whenever I go to him, it is like the first time he's seeing me, almost like he has zero recollection that I've been seeing him for years. He took care of my mother and gave her good care, but I saw him recently after she had been in and out of the hospital all year and he didn't even acknowledge it or ask how she was doing! This doctor would be better as a professor or something, cause he just does not have a human touch. Beyond that, he seems to be a shill for big pharma. Also has a giant Dr. Fauci cartoon on his wall basically saying that only an idiot would question Fauci. Why put that up? Is he trying to antagonize half his patients? Weirdly political for a doctor. NYU app is good to keep track of test results and things like that, but it is an assembly line type of place, in keeping with seeing us as numbers, not patients. Avoid this guy.

Dr. Michael Melgar is a very good practitioner. He has been attentive to the whole family's needs and responds to e-mails quickly. As a medical doctor I rate him very well. He speaks about the patient's medical conditions; makes recommendations; and is not overly aggressive with treatments. He is a good listener and his recommendations are reasonable for good health.

I spoke with the office in January to confirm that Dr. Melgar accepted my insurance. In September, I dropped-off my medical records with Dr. Melgar's assistant. I show-up for an appointment and it was a circus. After completing the necessary Forms, and giving them all my personal information, I was informed by the receptionist, Rebekah, that Melgar no longer accepts my plan. Why that was not told to me in September or when the office called to confirm the appointment earlier in the week is beyond comprehension. I was offered to see another doctor which I declined. When I requested my medical records back, I was told that they were not available and that Melgar was not even in the office (so there is no way that Melgar was ever going to see me during my scheduled appointment). After 15 minutes, my medical records miraculously appeared, but I was informed that my online information could not be expunged. This has been the absolute worst experience I have ever had with a doctor.

Horrible. You have no excuse for not contacting him after I told you he was in micu with sepsis. 55 days n u never called or came. My vet shows more compassion. A nurse spoke to you upon his discharge n still nothing. U live with it!

This doctor seems like a perfectly nice guy but he’s not a great doctor. I went to him because I was really sick with a persistent cough. He was dismissive and told me it was viral and I should take otc products. A day later I was diagnosed with pneumonia by a walk in clinic. Either he missed my pneumonia or to give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe it developed overnight. But any way you look at it, he didn’t help me and the appointment was a waste of time.

Strengths: Short waiting time, fast and efficient. Gets the job done. Weaknesses: Overworked and can get impatient if any lab/procedure/document requests is needed. Cannot blame him since most primary care physicians are overworked, but he openly shows his frustration and makes errors when he enters these orders/completes documents, requiring multiple attempts to correct him.

I have been seeing Dr. Melgar for about 10 years and I wouldn't ever consider going to another doctor. He is so thorough and really takes the time to explain EVERYTHING to you, from the cause of your symptoms down to the medication he is prescribing you. He really wants you to have an understanding. I never feel rushed- and if I ever have any questions for him, he takes the time to answer them.
