Thank God I found Dr. Patterson
I'd been diagnosed with advanced glaucoma in August and referred to a Dr. an hour away. I felt after 2 visits I wasn't going to the right Dr. and requested an appt. with Dr. Patterson and thank God for leading me to him. I'd already lost peripheral vision in both eyes and felt like my left eye was getting worse. He added another drop and after another visit he felt the pressure had come down a bit more and decided I could get surgery to have stents put in each eye . I've now had both eyes done and feel I am on the right track to not lose more vision. He was so great that he himself called after each operation to check on me. I'm a few months away from 75 and have never had such a concerned and wonderful Dr. I've been talking him up and know if anyone needs a wonderful Opthamologist he's the one I'd recommend. His staff is also very caring and terrific.

DO NOT USE THIS DOCTOR
I went for cataract surgery. Medicare paid I paid for premium lenses. First checkup I was having to use OTC glasses to read. He suggested I have YAG laser Medicare paid I paid copay. After YAG my vision was actually worse. I went to his office for prescription glasses to read. HE STARTED YELLING AT ME.WHAT DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND, HOW MANY TIMES DO IHAVE TO TELL YOU, I AMTHE ONE WITH THE EDUCATION! I was shocked. I had never experienced a professional throw a temper tantrum. Once he gets your Medicare money and you are a patient with a problem he is done with you. He may have his education but that does not make him a good doctor.

Horrible experience. HORRIBLE
Telehealth
He was dismissive, short, and uninterested in anything I had to say. People never forget how you make them feel.

Dr. Hubris
I had two appointments with this doctor and from the first moment I had interaction with him, I felt arrogance in his character, an attitude of superiority and lack of care. The time with him was less than five minutes in both appointments, he was abrupt in his treatment of me and unkind. After the second appointment, I decided together with my husband, that we would not return to this doctor. I have enough problems with my vision without having to put up with someone rubbing in my face how bad my eyes are without any kind of kindness.

Cataract experience
I went to Michael Patterson for routine cataract surgery. When I returned for my first checkup, I had blurred vision and astigmatism. Patterson did a cursory exam (no dilation) and told me to come back in four weeks with no further explanation. I wasn’t comfortable with that so I went to another ophthalmologist who did a full exam and found I had macular edema from the surgery and immediately put me on steroid and NSAID eye drops four times per day for five weeks. My vision is better but still not good. Based on my experience it’s my impression that Patterson is more concerned with how fast he can move patients through his office than in providing quality care. There are many other ophthalmologists in the area so my advice is not to risk your vision with Michael Patterson. I don’t usually put much value on internet reviews but I did note that of all the ophthalmologists I researched (unfortunately, after the fact) Patterson has nearly no favorable comments.

Dr. Patterson caused great distress to my eyes and vision. He inserted Durysta in both eyes, the need of which 2 other Opthalmologist found was questionable, at best, and in one eye was placed wrongly. This caused a huge decrease in my visual acuity, severe photosensitivity, and much pain/discomfort in both eyes. Dr. Patterson did not appear to take my issues seriously. He eventually prescribed drops, that gave no relief. I went in (finally), had an exam w many tests and he said, “Your eyes look great, I do not see why you are having problems). I responded “They are all side effects to the Durysta!” His response was “You should be over them by now”. I immediately went to another Opthamologist, Dr. Hudson, in Cookeville, had more tests done, and she recommended Cataract surgery/flush out Durysta. Just to be sure, I went to Vanderbilt Eye Institute, more tests and Dr. Brown concurred w and referred me back to Dr. Hudson for surgery. DO NOT GO TO DR. MICHAEL PATTERSON!

The staff at this facility are excellent and are an excellent introduction to a caring, knowledgeable and obviously skilled physician. I have already recommended him and this center to friends. My husband's nervousness was greatly eased when they conducted several different types of eye exams, and then sat down and explained options in a way he could understand. After this, he was eager to get the surgery done, and is now ready for Round 2 on the other eye.
