problematic behavior
This doctor was hostile when challenged or questioned, and engaged in disturbing behavior with us, which included cutting family out of the chain of communication. We filed an ethics complaint, but those are just reviewed by other doctors and ultimately go nowhere. I wish we had switched oncologists much sooner - not acting the minute it was clear that his behavior remains a huge regret. I wish we had not waited to replace a doctor who we concluded did not respect us and with whom we did not feel safe.

Dr. Michael Yen is 100% awesome. I felt so confused and overwhelmed until Dr. Yen was on my case; once I met him, I felt like I could finally breathe and think, and that there was someone I could count on. even though it’s a busy office, I’ve never had to wait too long, nor have I ever been left hanging in any respect. Dr. Yen has a knack for breaking down diagnosis, treatment options, and – this is so important to me – the rationale/logic for next steps and how to think about options. What's most valuable (and, I think, unique) is that he’s given me tools to develop my own, informed philosophy about how to live, and live well, with my condition. I can honestly say after 5+ years of seeing Dr. Yen, I don’t Google stuff anymore because I don’t need to—I have a doctor I can go to any time (seriously almost any time of day) with anything and get the info I need, that I know I can trust.

Narcissistic Personality Disorder
I was referred to McMullen. She was busy. Yen was not. Red fleg. While he first was able to synthesize information, his arrogance and lack of followthrough were not only disheartening but worrysome. I want patient care, not patient I do not care. I ended up going to Stanford. Get McMullen or go to Stanford.

I regret having every taken our mother to see Dr. Yen. He is pompous, rude, and unhelpful. He referred to our mother as "This lady" throughout her appt. despite being asked to call her by her name. He referred us to another specialist and then did not follow up with them. Rather than give us all of the information we needed to make an informed choice, he said, "So what do you want? I can't read your mind." We wanted education, expertise, and we wanted it delivered to us in a professional, kind manner.

Dr. Yen is AMAZING! I feel very fortunate being under his care. I was very impressed with his knowledge, explanation of treatment, and his quick response to any questions via text, email, etc. He surely doesn't skip a beat. His team are also incredible! They're well trained, compassionate and make procedures go comfortable, and seemlessly. We're lucky to have Dr. Yen locally at CCOH in Santa Cruz.

I met Dr. Michael Yen a week ago, when I had an urgent concern about a potential blood clot in my calf. As my familial history includes a blood clotting disorder, any symptoms in that direction are worrisome. Dr. Yen fit me in the same day, as a first time patient, and patiently spent :30 with me not only ruling out a blood clot, but talking out loud through his decision tree of trying to sort out what was causing the symptoms on my leg. Thorough, knowledgeable, accessible. Recommend.
