I discovered thyroid nodules while attending Hopkins as a student and presented to Health Services for evaluation. Dr. Codori responded telling me that a lot of medical and nursing students "take on" the diagnoses that they are learning about and that I was "probably palpating my hyoid bone". I will never forget this statement. I then took her hands and guided her in reexaminiing my neck -- had I not done this, my thyroid nodules (possible cancer) may have gone undiagnosed.
