Does the bare minimum
I have to agree with the other reviewers about Dr. Horton’s poor communication skills, but what impacted me the most about the care I received was that I had to seek out another opinion to receive a surgery that I ultimately needed. When I was getting the second opinion, the doctor showed me that a simple google search would have revealed that my test result was actually abnormal. It was obvious to me that Dr. Horton didn’t apply any real curiosity or persistence when trying to find the cause of my pain.

Poor communication skills.
Witnessed poor communication skills with a family member following a procedure. Seemed irritated with questions and in a hurry. As a long time registered nurse I was very disappointed in his overall bedside manner. Do better for your patients!

Would Not Recommend
His communication skills leave a lot to be desired. He did a procedure in the hospital then never bothered to come in afterwards to inform my wife and I of the results. I should have been discharged within 30 minutes but waited 2.5 hours to get out after a nurse advised me that we could leave. I inquired before the procedure what happens if he fails to find anything as the only unsearched area to locate bleeding was the small bowel (which cannot be scoped). He said the only option was an outpatient video capsule endoscopy - which he was not big on. Turns out nothing was found and that's the only option remaining if I want to pursue. I was told the GI group would f/u with me to discuss but was never contacted. Why would I go back to him - or them?

Dr.Horton isn’t worried about actually treating your illness. He doesn’t explain things well at all, he doesn’t seem very educated or confident. I had an appointment with him and he had his ringer on and was answering texts while I was in the room. I’m from Michigan and have a medical marijuana card for Crohn’s disease. He tells me that that is my problem and not my disease, when it’s a MEDICAL card for a reason. He is very unprofessional and brings his beliefs into his practice and won’t give any real medical advice. I wouldn’t recommend unless you don’t want good advice.
