Dr. Oliver Schein, MD

Dr. Schein is highly skilled and experienced surgeon. Having eye surgery is scary, and the important thing is the success of the procedure. I opted for the upgraded lenses and I now have 20 20 vision and am able to look at my phone and read brief passages without readers. Dr. Schein’s demeanor is professional and efficient. I don’t need my hands held during appointments. What’s important is being able to see clearly.

My appointment was well over an hour late but I was only seen for 5 minutes. I did not feel like my concerns were addressed at all.I had experienced some uncommon but highly alarming symptoms that I wanted to get checked out. They had mostly abated by the time of my appointment, although I still had some physical discomfort (including some remaining, visible symptoms). I was especially afraid the issue would recur in the future. Dr. Schein said it was not a problem but he did not investigate anything, and he did not have any answers about why I experienced the symptoms I did, either. I still had several open questions at the end of the 5 minutes but the doctor wasn’t giving me more of his time.

I recently had cataract surgery. After consulting with Dr. Schein, I decided to have the multifocal lens implants. I was told by him that insurance will cover everything BUT the cost of the multifocal lens. Please be advised that this is NOT completely true. I paid $3250 per eye for the lens. I later learned that the lens cost per eye is only $1250. The other $2000 per eye is additional dollars the doctor receives for his services. When I brought this to the attention of Dr. Schein, he was surprised and indicated these dollars did not come to him. He said the only thing that I should have paid for was the actual cost of the lens. Wilmer Billing continued to contradict this and said Dr. Schein was paid the additional dollars. I would have appreciated knowing upfront that the lens was only $1250 per eye and the other $2000 per eye went to Dr. Schein. While it may not have changed my decision, it would have at least been honest!
