Reflecting on our visit with Dr. Cruz 15 years ago - referred to him by our pediatrician upon the birth of our first child - he diagnosed bilateral congenital cataracts on day 7 of her life. With his diagnosis, he matter of factly stated to us (first time parents) she would never attend “normal” school & never drive a car, among other blanket statements. 15 years later I’m proud to report our daughter is a high school freshman, a straight A student in all “challenge” classes in a top school district, gifted singer and actor with a future in musical theater and a DRIVER who today, with one implant and contact lenses in both eyes has better vision than both of her parents. Thank GOD for Dr. Gregg Lueder and the team at St. Louis Children’s for their and professionalism and for never giving up on our daughter. Shame on SSM and Dr. Cruz for their complete dereliction of duty-I am heartbroken for the families who lack resources to seek a second opinion. ALL FAMILIES DESERVE BETTER

I had 2 strabismus repair surgeries by Dr. Cruz and was overcorrected and was supposed to repair that and ended up allowing a resident operate and left parts of my inside muscle unattached from the eyeball. I do NOT recommend wasting any amount of time with him especially if he plans on operating. He did no muscle tests beforehand and did not explain anything to me or hardly talk at all about the procedure. Look somewhere else!

He is a very rude person, will sit in patient’s situation to help patient make a comfortable decision. He acts he is the smartest just because he knows more than patients. Not going to see him again because I feel awful about him every time.

After taking my son to doctor Cruz for the past 6 months, he has shown me exactly what I am not looking for in a medical professional. His lack of bedside manner is matched by his level of class, tact. He told me “I could give a dog just as thorough exam” referring to my 14 month old. I wouldn’t refer an enemy to this careless, heartless “professional”.

This provider is not recommended!!! He walked in after a resident examined my child and told us that he was fine when our eye doctor sent us there immediately for an eye wound that was not healing. He wasn't even going to look at our child's eye until I asked him to, when he looked he said "ppsshhh...I don't even see anything at all" to which my husband replied" please look in the left eye as that is why we are here". We were then referred to Mercy Children's and had a much better experience.

I would not recommend Dr. Cruz. He spent less than 5 minutes examining my child and did absolutely nothing in terms of treatment. He was very short with me and his bedside manner is poor to say the least.
