My provider was Dr. Goyal. Obviously she was excellent. I was also seen by a first year medical student. He was very friendly introduced himself was very professional and courteous he listened well asked appropriate questions and was gentle and explained everything he was going to do before proceeding.

Uncoordinated care
My mother had late stage dementia as well as a very lengthy medical record. As her dementia worsened I begged Dr. Goyal to refer her to someone but she wouldn’t. She just kept saying that she had it “under control” but she didn’t. There were medications that could have helped her symptoms that were never prescribed. She wasn’t even referred to a neurologist! Obviously dementia worsens but there was nothing put in place to help my mother. My mother passed away having no idea what was going on around her, could barely communicate until she couldn’t communicate at all. She suffered. Imagine my surprise to see that Vanderbilt has a Cognitive Medicine and Dementia Care Center whom my mother should have been referred to YEARS ago! Her quality of life was severely impacted. She was on no medications despite terrifying hallucinations. None of her dementia symptoms were ever addressed. I’m flabbergasted that a doctor who claims to be a geriatric doctor has no clue how to help the elderly.

My mom went to her for a second opinion and was VERY VERY disappointed! The doctor was very rude in her approach when discussing her findings. She only spent 5 minutes with her. The doctor didn't do the history, instead had a resident do the intake. We would NOT recommend her if you have an elderly family member. We really thought that seeing a specialist that the visit would give us a new direction in getting my mom help for her medical issues. Didn't happpen!
