He told me what was wrong, and how he was going to fix it. I don't need someone to coddle me, I got a surgeon that fixed me and told me what to do to maximize my recovery.

He MAY be a good surgeon, but if he doesn't explain things, can't manage the post-surgical process, and won't listen to your concerns - go elsewhere. He did a "repair" on me several years ago. nothing but problems ever since. Post-repair, as someone else mentioned, he told me I wasn't trying hard enough. Just like that other person, it turned out that I was doing too much, had a lot of inflammation, and needed to do much LESS. Can not recommend him.

Dr. Hautamaa performed TKA in Sept 2016. His bedside manner is terrible. He actually accused me of not trying hard enough during my recovery even though my therapist claimed I was trying to hard and slowing my healing. The surgery was a failure. I have been suffering ever since. I am now looking at a possible life time of chronic pain or a full revision. I would not recommend him to anyone.

But I should add that the knee replacement he did on me turned out perfectly and he is going to do the other knee next month. You cannot argue with success

He did a bicep tendon repair, reattachment and some other clean up on my left shoulder August of 2015. It all came out great. He was very nice, explained thing fully. Not the most touch feely guy but pleasant. I think some of these reviews of him not having a good bedside manner is because he is to the point and tells you all the facts. Maybe things people don't want to hear. From my experience he is an excellent surgeon.

He has no bedside manner, he comes in for 5 minutes, always looks like he's in a hurry, explains what he's gonna do like he's working on your car. Any questions? Then he rushes off. After the procedure he does not come to see you. He talked to my wife and left. She also says he has no bedside manner. Once he's done cutting, you are no longer his problem. He did an arthroscopy on me that failed. I now had a knee replace with him. No follow up. I'm in pain. I'm scared to death will it heal.
