Dr. Paul Switaj, MD

As a senior citizen who loves to walk with friends, when my feet started hurting - especially one of them on the bottom, a first - I asked my kids - we (humble Mom brag) have ' a few' physicians in our family - for a recommendation. Our oldest son immediately reached out to a former med school classmate - Dr. Paul Switaj - who said he could see me. From the moment I was in the office in Reston, I was treated with kindness and smiles. Everyone was so lovely. Dr. Switaj listened, examined, and offered his expert diagnosis and suggestions for treatment at this stage. I really loved his honest and conservative approach at this point and felt that with his suggestions I would be back walking 'briskly' - haha for a woman in her 70s! - very soon at my beloved Ida Lee Park. I left his office feeling very confident and hopeful. That's such a nice way to leave a medical appointment. Grateful I can write this. I wish Dr. Switaj could be my doctor for everything you may need a doctor for! He’s been my doctor for six years, beginning after I was hit by a car and wound up in the Reston Hospital trauma unit. My ankle was a complete disaster. Dr. Switaj has operated on my ankle three times so far, and my fourth and final operation is in the early planning stages. Dr. Switaj is an all around excellent doctor. Super-nice and interested. Great bedside manner. Smart. Young, so knows the latest and greatest in orthopedics. He explains fully, listens and answers your questions & concerns. He even called me the day after I got home from my four day stay in the hospital to see how I was adjusting to being home after having had my first surgery a few days earlier. I wish there were more doctors out there like him, and I wish I could give him more than just 5 stars! I would absolutely recommend Dr. Switaj to anyone. I am so blessed it was he who came to my side and made it possible for me to walk again!

I saw Dr. Switaj as a follow up from the walk-in office at Ortho Virginia. I had ruptured something in my foot and couldn’t put any weight on it. They recommend that I get an MRI and follow up with Dr Switaj as he was closer to my house. Well I’m so glad I did. I wasn’t able to get the MRI in the weeks time because of insurance hold up, and I’m glad I didn’t. Dr Switaj diagnosed me without one, a ruptured plantar fascia. He gave me a course of action and told me how the healing works and that if everything keeps improving I don’t even need to be seen again! My foot in 24 hrs from seeing him my foot and ankle swelling is nearly gone! He saved me costly medical bills and gave me peace of mind. Probably one of the best Drs I’ve ever seen. Would recommend to ANYONE with foot or ankle issues!

Based on the surgery performed by Dr. Switaj on my foot over 18 months ago, I could never recommend him. The surgery created even more problems. His only response post op when we discussed that I still had pain and now I cannot bend the two toes he inserted wires into for 6 weeks was "I am sorry you are unhappy with the outcome". I followed all the guidelines he gave me to have a successful outcome and to this day the sole of my foot is still numb and due to pain/discomfort I cannot walk any distance on it. Forget about running on it.

I’ve had weak, easily sprained ankle for 60 years. Dr. Switaj showed me the exercise to make it stronger. Based on his advice, I tried the steroid shot that I had been avoiding. It really worked great for me. It’s been at least 3 years pain free. It’s allowed me to continue my daily walks and stay fit at 76 years old!

First time visit and it was great. Very compassionate reassuring and knowledgeable. I will be having surgery on left ankle for displacement of tibia into my ankle. I have a lot of anxiety about surgery and he was caring and took the time to explain everything while showing me the X-ray of what he was going to do.

Dr Switaj type folks are simply magicians. Complex features and complex surgery yet 100% successful. His dedication and consistent effort towards perfection pays off for patients like me. A god send ??????

I came to Dr. Switaj with an ankle fracture. He was wonderful at giving me information on my progress and was positive and personable. He really made a difficult time much less stressful, and gave me great advice throughout.

My 9 yr old son was having heel pain and Dr. Switaj assessed the problem quickly using the xrays sent over by Patient First. He put us all at ease with his knowledge and bedside manner. He spoke to my boy directly, not talking "over him" as some doctors do. We left with a plan of action to manage the pain and a better outlook for what had been going on with Jake's foot. Thank you!

I fell off a ladder on 9/10/21 and broke both legs, fractured femurs right above the ankles referred to as pylon fractures. I arrived at Reston hospital by ambulance, where I was treated by Dr. Switaj and an assisting physician. In a 5-hour operation, they temporarily stabilized my legs and reduced the fractures, allowing time for swelling to go down. After a week in the hospital, I underwent a second 4 and a half hour operation, during which the fractures were permanently closed with three steel plates and 38 titanium screws. I remained unable to bear weight on my feet until December 7, when I was allowed to begin walking in clam shell boots. Weeks of PT followed, and I slowly regained my ability to walk. I have since fully recovered, and now regularly go on 2-mile walks without pain or discomfort. Dr. Switaj, for me, was a miracle worker who fully restored my ability to walk. He is an excellent surgeon for whom I will always be most grateful.

Dr Switaj was able to see me at short notice. His bedside manner was outstanding. He explained my injury in great detail and answered all my questions. I highly recommend him!!!!!

Facing several foot related bone issues can be confusing and overwhelming but Dr Switaj has taken the time to carefully explain to me what I am facing and what my choices are. I am deeply appreciative of his knowledge and kindness and feel that he truly has the best interest of his patients at heart. Friendly welcoming staff at checkin. Told Dr. Switaj was behind schedule, but the wait was not long. Initially met with his PA, also very welcoming, setting me at ease, immediately afterwards radiology tech took me for X-rays. Dr. Switaj from the moment he came into the examining room was very upbeat, expressing genuine enthusiasm in dealing with what I felt were minor injuries and addressing any concerns I may have. He had reviewed all the information I provided his PA before he came in, carefully explained everything to me as he looked at my X-rays, and after thoroughly examining both feet, discussed the extent of my injuries, reassuring me that he understood why I sought his consult and even stated he had just been teaching their PAs about the need to rule out the possibility of other issues involved when treating what may appear to be a sprain. I’m confident in Dr. Switaj’s diagnosis and happy I didn’t sustain any severe injuries.
