Caring, Kind, and Excellent
As the medical oncologist who supervises the treatment and monitoring of my metastatic prostate cancer, Dr. Van Veldhuizen and his team have been invariably kind, thorough, communicative, and responsive. His team and my radiation oncology team under Dr. Michael Cummings worked together seamlessly. I could share my concerns and fears at any time and receive honest information and respectful reassurance. I have always felt that I am among friends, and look forward to seeing them. In fact, not a single person I have encountered at Strong and the URMC imaging services has been less than warm, welcoming, and encouraging. It took time to stop being a woeful sick man and start participating actively in the recovery I seek by doing and learning more, socializing more, eating a fruit and vegetable-based diet, walking daily, and exercising at the YMCA. A quiet man, Dr. Van smiled into my eyes at our first meeting and gently squeezed my shoulder, setting the tone of care for my entire experience.
