Dr. Pratik Patel, DO

I've been seeing Dr. Patel for a few years now and couldn't recommend him more highly. He's thoughtful, patient (I never feel rushed!) and it's clear he wants to partner with you on your healthcare because he always explains the why behind decisions or concerns. I went to him with some funky symptoms I really couldn't figure out. I think most doctors would have thrown their hands up and told me to live with it but he ran the right tests and got to the bottom of it (thyroid issues!). I'm thankful I have a doctor that really listens and is proactive.

After 3 lengthy hospital visits over 4 months, Dr. Patel became my new general doctor. At each of my brand new visits to him, Dr Patel spoke more in depth about years of my health records than I could believe. His kindness and familiarity made me think he had accompanied me 24hrs each day of my hospital treatments. Plus kind and friendly! His insights and medical support in my self care going forward happily in life. Plus I laugh at every meeting. He makes me feel great.

Very good and professional approach

I have been so fortunate to be in Dr. Patel's care for several years now, and am continuously and always impressed by his demeanor, expertise, and overall quality and accuracy of care. He has my full faith in his care, and I highly recommend him as a GP. In our visits, Dr. Patel comes across as kind, interested, sensitive, and receptive to whatever is going on. He seems to actually care that I'm not left hanging with unaddressed problems. I also deeply appreciate his balance of humility and expertise: His wealth of knowledge is amazing, but he has also been clear and honest when he thinks a second opinion would be helpful, referring me as needed (and helping to find trustworthy doctors to connect me with). Finally, he is remarkably attentive to and transparent about the costs of different services or interventions (in money, time, effort) and been extremely collaborative in figuring out what will work best for my specific needs and wants. I wish you luck in your care with him.

I was in search of a new primary care doctor as I moved to Oakland. I selected Dr. Patel and since then have had a few positive interactions. He was excellent at explaining my condition and answering questions. I felt like I was his only patient that day. He also made a recommendation for a comprehensive program to help me lose weight. I also communicated with him a few times through Sutter Health, asking his opinion and updating him on my status. Each time he is very responsive and he is always very thorough. I highly recommend him.

I visited Dr Patel for a check-up. He told me I “might as well” get labs done that I didn’t need because they were “100% covered” under my insurance. I got a bill for $807. For the next FOUR MONTHS, I called Dr Patel hundreds of times and filed billing disputes which kept getting ignored or rejected.. all while Dr Patel completely ignored me. His office treated me like horribly. They told me I was lying, they ignored me, they gas-lit me, and they blamed me for what he did. No one EVER took responsibility. He not only wouldn’t take responsibility by acknowledging to his office staff that he made a mistake, he didn’t have enough integrity or respect to even talk to me and help me figure out the problem. I went through four months of being treated this way, and all I’ve gotten are letters from the office saying I had no right to contact them (when they were ignoring me). It turns out that all they had to do was re-submit the paperwork.
