I left the experience in tears
I have zero trust in the dedication and interest in patient care with Dr.Gai. He was hurried, not invested, annoyed, and sarcastic in the consult. I had prepared many questions, none of which were answered. He does not listen or provide compassionate care. I immediately switched doctor's.

My father had part of his colon removed by a surgeon Dr. Gai referred. When he had his staples removed, the surgeon said the pathology report showed cancer was in some lymph nodes. Had our follow up appt today with Dr Gai. He told us that the pathology report showed cancer was not on Amy nodes!!! When I questioned, he flipped a couple pages of the report and said I was right....if the surgeon didn't tell us last week, we would have left Gai's office thinking dad was cancer-free!!!!!

Fist visit with this oncologist. Went for my yearly Breast Cancer follow up. Doctor did not do a breast examination. Doctor steered the conversation toward his hematology profession rather than my Breast Cancer diagnosis. I will not return to this Doctor.

Horrible! My PCP referred me to Dr. Gai for a concern on PET. All my test came back benign (thank you Jesus). Following up with Dr. Gai he came in the room without a chart or report on my results. Asked me what happened when he should have reviewed all records. Then told me I need another MRI in 3 months but couldn't give me a medical reason why. He was all over the place. I kindly thank him and removed myself as there was no reason for an additional MRI per another provider I consulted with. Dr. Gai is not knowledgeable at all.

Wasted time
I was referred to Dr. Gai by my primary care doctor after I was diagnosed with cancer. We waited almost 4 weeks to initially see him and to order my PET scan. Once the scan was complete he never actually sat down to go over it with us. He simply read some of the report and missed much of it or just didnt understand it. When we tried to ask questions because we were scared and concerned he seemed short and didnt have any answers. We finally decided to stop with this silliness and head to Johns Hopkins where we are getting top notch care from experts!

My husband had bloodwork done, was referred to Dr. Gai. Due to the seriousness of the situation, possible cancer, we were very disappointed with Dr. Gai and his assistant's way of taking care of us. It was very difficult to understand Dr. Gai, asked him to often repeat. He didn't go into much detail except to say it was cancer. Not much else was explained. what was involved, just that. When asked, my husband said he didn't want to know the longevity associated with this type of cancer. Five minutes later his assistant announced it was 'maybe 10 to 15 years'!! They weren't focused on us, just reading off some of the results. When we left the assistant gave us a folder with some pamphlets to read. Fortunately we found a really great hematologist/oncologist who verified it wasn't cancer, explained everything, called us at home to give more positive results for which we're so grateful! Considering the seriousness of the situation, we were stunned by our experience with Dr. Gai.

No. Horrible follow up. My mom needed a transfusion from a blood bank and Dr. Gai never followed up; and then went on a vacation. After getting her to University of MD and receiving 2 bags of blood; she died a week later. My dad died and father in law all died in the care of this hospital. Do NOT go there. They are a community hospital and the fact that they would not allow me in; when Sinai and University of MD would to be a patient advocate, is beyond me. Also take a translator with you because it is very difficult for older people to understand him. Also; no follow up from hospital leadership on this matter; after I shared it with someone who was “ supposedly” in charge.

1. Took his time in thinking of a plan that worked for the current health issues facing my family. Had to switch to another form of chemo to help combat the issues. Helpful staff who answers the phone and returns phone call that same day. Feel that they are watching and taking care of symptoms quickly.
