Excellent Care
I saw Dr. Smerd because my physician was out that day. My PCP is also exceptional. Dr. Smerd took the time to hear my symptoms. I didn't feel rushed and she took my symptoms seriously. I had to go for further testing right away and she kept in touch with me the entire time. I would highly recommend her.

A very competent doctor but not a good fit for me
I'm sure she is a very competent doctor and a good fit for many, however after being a patient for years I found that she became increasingly dismissive of my concerns, condescending and oddly argumentative and combative to the point where I dreaded my appointments with her and I would delay care. Her attitude was very much 'what is it now?'. As someone who has a tendency to dismiss my own health concerns until they become overt this made her a really poor fit for me.

medically and intellectually tops in all areas.
I have had Dr, Smerd as my PCP for many, many year. Few MDs have been so right on the mark about diagnosis and if necessary, referral. She is quiet, but listens to every word and brings understanding and kindness to her patients. My adult children have started to visit her, which is unusual because for most of adulthood they seek total independence in all areas, but were so satisfied after much needed general exams ----- that they now prefer her as a PCP.

Not very honest with charges
Dr. Smerd seemed to be thorough and welcomes questions and gives multiple referrals even when I declined. Then I received a bill for the annual check up which does not have a copay. Turns out the referrals and questions deemed outside of the check up is billed as a separate visit. So I was charged 2 visits at the same time, in the same office, talking to the same person with one check up and one non check up visit. There was no action on my questions other than tell me to go see a specialist. I do not agree this should count as a separate visit outside an annual check up. Is it not normal to ask about any concerns about one's health at a check up? My previous doctor retired during covid and I will look for another one that does not seem to entrap me into charging more.

She is excellent!
Dr Smerd has been my PCP since 2014 when I moved to Brooklyn from Boston where I had a concierge PCP. She is wonderful, thorough, kind & always makes time to explain everything to me. When she orders tests or refers me to a specialist, she always explains why & gets right back to me with results. I would recommend her to anyone & have.
