Pleasant first visit with Dr. Pourmand
I read many poor reviews about Dr. Pourmand here and i had considered canceling my appointment. I must say that the Dr. was very pleasant, and had already known that my doctor recommended that i come to the office regarding the neck pain that radiates into my head. I have a diagnosis of cervical stenosis. Dr. Pourmand reviewed my MRI and checked my overall muscle strength and reflexes. He addressed my questions and assessed my pain issues and kindly referred me to his PA for further assessment. We must remember that even though our pain makes us frustrated, if we show respect we will, most of the time, gain respect in return.

Bell's Palsy follow-up: why are you here?
6 wks previous, I visited the ER at Stony Brook Hospital on the SBU campus with a significant paralysis on the right side of my face which was diagnosed as Bell's Palsy. The attending neuro in the ER, insisted that an ophthalmologist examine my eye before discharge from the ER in which verbal instructions, as well as documented discharge instructions stated to follow-up with an immuno-neurologist and an immuno-ophthalmologist.Upon entering the exam, I was instantly taken-aback by his age and possibly impaired mental status. My wife accompanied me and we needed to repeat almost everything we told him but he could not hear us. He inquired why we made an appoint with him, and my wife attempted to show him the ER discharge orders; yet, he would not even look at the document. I also asked for an ophthalmology referral, and he stated that I did not need to see an ophthalmologist for Bell's palsy. Lastly, my wife asked about a PT referral; reluctantly, he stated we could go to anyone.

Do not bother scheduling a visit with this Dr.
Recently I have been experiencing a nerve issue and after visiting my primary neuro i was advised to speak to a specialist. When I got into the office, Dr. Pourmand basically said you have no reason for being here your initial Dr.'s testinng is conconclusive and yields no results. He was undetermined to find a root cause and nearly refused the request for imaging. After pushing for imaging the Radiologist technician with M.D. certifications has noticed small abnormalities corresponding to the current patient conditions while it seems Dr. Pourmand sees no abnormalities. I will be visiting other doctors to get their professional opinion. In my experience with Dr. Pourmand I would recommend that you find another nuerological specialist in Stony Brooks' Nuero department as this Doctor shows no signs sign or sympathy or proper bedside manner for his patient. This doctor seems to have no real care for his patients

Horrendous experience
0 stars. can’t even rate himI went with a friend of mine who had some issues with shakes, headaches ect. A lot of anixiety. He was the most incompassionate doctor I’ve ever encountered . Walk in he’s on the phone. Hangs up no introduction asks why there as she explaining cut short saying he doesn’t treat this and that. Then he . Takes a call and walks out of room no explaination. Such a cold uncaring man. Didn’t even listen to her concerns. Since we found a amazing Nuero at north Suffolk. Night and day. When they say poor bedside manner well there you go. Horrendous experience .

Do not waste your time.
I have never felt more dismissed or gaslit by a doctor in my entire life. I’m genuinely surprised he didn’t laugh in my face because that’s exactly what it felt like he was doing when I was explaining what I was there for. Every time he would ask me a question I would get two words in before he either interrupted me, told me what I was saying what wrong (he literally told me my tongue swelling from a medication wasn’t an allergic reaction and to deal with it if I wanted treatment), or just moved onto the next question without me being able to finish my response. Absolutely horrible. I walked out of the office in tears. The med student/resident in the office was very nice and I feel bad he has to work and learn from such a horrible doctor.

Traumatized me
I left a review on the Stonybrook site. As my husband lay dying and I was in extreme pain from trigeminal neuralgia, he mocked me and dismissed me. This was the worst experience I had ever had with a doctor. I left sobbing. Could not drive home for an hour. Still feeling it after six months. This man is twisted.

Do not waiste your time
I had three MRIs and an EMG test, only to be told, "you will have to learn to live with it." and exited the room. He was extraordinarily dissmisive and rude. He did not listen to me when I asked what to do next. I, unfortunately, asked around afterward only to hear two of my friends had the same response from him.

Rude and Dismissive
I've never been treated in a more disrespectful manner from any Doctor in my life. He was rude dismissive and refused to even listen to why I was being referred to him. He just kept speaking over me and then hung up after telling me he would not be keeping my appointment.

Total waste of time and money. Dismissive, condescending. Ignored MRI report. Gave conflicting diagnosis that made no sense based on medical history/mri. (The med student in the room was very nice though.)

Similar experience to the other negative reviews. Dr. Pourmand was very rude and dismissive. He was borderline yelling about how my symptoms need to be treated by someone else and how it doesn't make any sense that other Stony Brook doctors would refer me to a neurologist (guess I made it up?) and I should go back to them. It was so bizarre. I just didn't really engage and stayed positive, even though he was basically ranting at me. No real harm done i guess, but just a total waste of time. He really is legitimately rude and condescending too, as others mentioned.

After spending an hour with his Medical students, who i know were kind and eager to listen, Dr Pourmand spent all of 2 minutes reviewing and dismissing me before telling me he has no help or advice with my case. Having been recommended to him and referred to him i waiting a whole month to see him to be disappointed and frustrated. I was referred to him after having multiple episodes of muscle spasms, muscle pain and muscle weakness that has brought me to take time off work and education because of the pain. I presented myself in his office with all the medical imaging and information he could need only for him to walk in and tell me he can't help and to see someone else. Understandably i get if i was not in his range of practice that he could offer advice but as a doctor he acted disinterested and cold towards both my family member and I. Confused as to why we were told he could help he did not answer any of our questions as to what maybe causing my pain or any advice on how to move fo

I have been a patient of Dr. Rahman Pourmand for over 10-years. I used to drive to Manhattan, but I grew weary of traveling that far. When I met Dr. Pourmand, I felt comfortable and confident in his knowledge about ALS. I felt so confident, I've recommended Dr. Pourmand to my cousin for treating her. His Support staff is top-notch also!
