As a fellow Hollander I can deal with a no nonsense approach that is not acceptable to everyone. He tells it like is and is a good practioner. If you need hand holding and warm fuzzies he is not your man. I just had successful surgery by him but he did not speak with my spouse post op, which I do not find acceptable. I will address that with him at my F/U. If I have further needs I will not be hesitant to see him again. OAM doesn't have a good reputation throughout the medical community in West Michigan. Many Drs are referring to GR. As we are aging out, we are hesitant to drive, and OAM knows this. Reorganizing the physical space is a start, but over booking pts, just in case there is a cancellation is rude and disrespectful to us as pts, who also have a life besides ALWAYS waiting at least 45 min but usually an hour before we are seen. That goes directly to office management but is still controlled by the Physicians who own this practice.

I have been seeing Dr Kapteyn for over 8 years and cannot say enough how he has improved my quality of life, 10 fold. I have multi faceted spinal cord issues causing pain and havoc everywhere. He addresses every issue and LISTENS to me in addition to diagnostics to zero in on the best therapeutic approach to try first. He IS caring, dependable, skilled, empathetic and determined to help. He is swamped so he has to be on the move but to me, there is no Dr I trust more??

He was rude and uncaring. He did not listen or pay any attention to me(he talked to my husband). He was doing an ultrasound on my thigh, then he wanted to ultrasound my hip. He did not say anything to me about needing to move my shorts and underwear, just grabbed them and started to pull them down. I got upset, he didn’t seem to care. He also tried to tell me I had osteoarthritis in my foot and planter factious (I do security for a living,I walk all day. I was also military and have had planter factious ). He sent me back to PT ,it did not help the first time. I called and complained to his boss, I am not sure what came out of it. I refused to see him again.

These reviews confuse me. I’ve spent 4 years getting the run-around by no less than 12 specialists. They didn’t find anything and told me my chronic pain was all in my head. 4 years!!! But in my first visit with Dr. Kapteyn, he was able to confirm a rare genetic disorder I had long suspected. He ordered appropriate testing & I had multiple confirmed diagnoses w/in 10 days. He was compassionate & knowledgeable. Of course, I came in understanding that opioids aren’t a real solution to pain, so...

Dr. Kapteyn is very angry. I was there to get relief from chronic pain. He did not like Meds my other doctors gave me. My Meds are mild no hard narcotics. I asked for sedation he had a cow. He said I only give very little if I gave any. I was scared should have gone elsewhere. Procedure was painful he got angry I was uncomfortable. Crying when done. Staff not supportive. Told me it was not bad. Procedure did not help site painful. Real rating 0. I did not go back.

I've seen a lot of doctors for my back and neck and really like Dr. Kapetyn. He's always been professional and kind. His treatment is clinical, and that could seem insensitive to some people, but for me he has been helpful in diagnosing issues and finding solutions. He has gone out of his way to help me multiple times. His procedures (injections & a neurotomy) have helped me SO MUCH. I am feeling way better than when I started seeing him after years of pain and several surgeries!

dr Kapteyn seemed very disinterested in my condition. He’d ask me to explain my symptoms then interrupt me& tell me it didn’t make sense. He was condescending impatient & rude. I am a health care provider & found his behavior upsetting. I agreed to an injection weeks later which was painful & provided no relief. I have since seen another pain specialist that explained everything in a professional manner & the injection I received at a different site with different meds gave me immediate relief.

If I could give Dr. Kapteyn 0 stars, I would. This is the most erratic, misogynistic man I have ever met in my life--do yourself and don't see him. Don't bother asking him any questions, he is aggressive and defensive and has no business practicing medicine. I've never seen someone lose their cool like Dr. Kapteyn. There are multiple reviews of him on multiple websites that all describe him as erratic and unable to control his anger and yet OAM continues to still employee him.

His staff member was angry because I asked what her credentials were. I had to ask because she had no badge on. I said I am surprised you are not wearing a badge. She got mad and asked if I wanted the Dr. to perform the test. I said yes and then Dr. Kapteyn charges in the room, gets in my face and starts yelling. He did not ask me what happened! He just keeps yelling at me, for what? So I don't have a right to ask questions? I don't have a right to know who is doing the test on me? Has issues!

I recently visited Dr. Kapteyn for issues with my back and shoulder and was treated with the utmost respect. He suggested I have a spinal injection and was able to fit me in that same day. Great doctor and great care.

I have never met such a rude uncaring doctor. He acted like I wasnt there and didn't matter. I went home crying for his lack of concern. With an s-curve scoliosis in my back, i am sure my pain isn't just muscle strain. Will go for a second opinion. Hopefully to a doctor who knows what compassion means.
