Excellent caring retina specialist.
Dr. Sanders knowledge, thoroughness, professionalism and compassion inspire confidence in his and his staff’s care. I feel I am receiving the best of care. I would recommend him without any hesitation.

I think Dr Sanders is very knowledgeable and caring. I have been been a patient over 5 years for an occlusion of my retina. I receive a shot every six weeks which is administered with compassion and carefully numbed. The staff is quite efficient. The office wait is far to excessive and this makes a patient feel unimportant and the time interacting rushed. He needs to address this flaw in the practice.

My experience with the Retina Group of Washington over the past 18 months has been above reproach. Everyone there, from the back office to the doctors I've seen, has been friendly, knowledgeable, and easy to work with. Dr. Sanders is still new to me (my original doctor took maternity leave) but he also fits the profile: friendly, easy to talk to, and expert in his knowledge. It takes a lot of trust to allow someone to stick an needle in your eye every four weeks, and I no longer even think much of it. I can't give higher praise than that.

Dr Sanders is great BUT the wait is always too long. A patient feels like her/his time is not at all valuable. One does not wait that long for other tech people who need to do the first work.---That's not a great photo of Sanders !!!

Starting to loose one's sight is Scary! Was easy to decide to go the RGW, as I knew one of the founding members and have a high regard to Dr Pilkerton (now Retired) Dr Sanders did a terrific job repairing my Macular Hole in my Retina. He said it was mostly my efforts that the eye recovered the way it did. I do not agree.... the surgeon (DR Sanders) did an outstanding surgery..... as far as I can tell after 5 months. Just had my 5 month follow up. The eye has healed above expectations. Sure...... I wish it was better, but I have 20-30 corrected vision. Better than what I was told to expect. Yes... I am pleased.

Had an eye emergency due to a sudden vision change in one eye and was referred to the Retina Center...with little time until closing. Scared out of my wits I might lose my sight in that eye - and after back and forth calls with my insurance which requires a doctor's referral (the Center's Assistant Manager initially wouldn't accept a doctor's referral, only an insurance plan referral (?!) - though, the Office Manager had earlier confirmed the opposite before she'd left), I was approved and told to come in fast because now only one doctor remained and they were closing in a half hour. The staff was pleasant and helpful, and Dr. Sanders seemed to be a good diagnostician, also asking if I had any questions, but, regardless that he might have been annoyed at having to work past closing, a bedside manner putting patients at ease wasn't apparent.

Have very high regard for Dr. Sanders and would recommend him to others based on his knowledge and experience. Would have given 5 star rating but he is never on time, staff are not friendly, do not interact with patients, do not answer questions when asked, especially when waits are long. In general, the atmosphere is cold and unwelcoming. This has been consistent for 3 years I have been going every month.

Referred by my ophthalmologist to determine if a vision problem was due to a retina problem. While the problem is not associated with the retina, he confirmed the probable diagnosis from the ophthalmologist.

So glad I found this doctor! I searched the DMV for ophthalmologists who specialized in pediatric patients with an underlying medical condition and found Dr. Sanders at The Retina Group of Washington in Greenbelt. I was seen the next day after I made the appointment. At my appointment, I was greeted by friendly staff and appropriate tests were performed. Dr. Sanders met with us after the tests. He introduced himself and calmed my child with his friendly demeanor and small talk. Dr. Sanders clearly understood my child's medical condition and its impact on the retina and vision; he reviewed the tests and gave clear concise dictation while we were in his presence. He demonstrated what he was looking at during his examination with an age appropriate model of the eye. I learned so much during that visit that I made an appointment for myself with him.

Dr. Sanders took as much time as I needed to explain my multiple retinal detachments. He draws sketches as he explains that you can take with you to help you remember or explain to others. He is patient, kindly and has a good sense of humor in my experience.
