The most comprehensive Doctor I've been to.
Dr Berardi was amazingly knowledgeable in every facet of my treatment. Extensive bloodwork gave him insight into what was going on with me. He gave me the medication and lifestyle changes that I need to make to get back on the road to health. Everything he told me to do, completely turned around the bad markers in my bloodwork. I recommend him to everyone.

Too negative & gloomy
PROS: Dr. B is responsive, focuses on root causes, and tries to keep you off medications. Seems very knowledgeable about nutrition, and has a strong POV about eating habits.CONS: A little too blunt and smug. If you're not a vegan, you're going to die of heart disease. Get ready for him to tell you about that for 90% of your visit. I'm very fit, thin, and in good health, yet I left every appointment feeling like my family is on death's doorstep because we still eat chicken and turkey. Meanwhile, he is quick to dismiss other issues you want to talk about. Overall, I learned a lot from him, but found him to be too negative, and not encouraging enough. I left for someone with a brighter, friendlier disposition.

The most caring Doc I have ever seen
Dr Berardi hands down is the most knowledgeable honest and caring physician o have ever come across. His approach to medicine is refreshing. He promotes treating root cause and not just symptoms. I read other reviews. He must have simply told them the truth as I have found nothing but personable and empathic with very grounded and sound advice

Stay Away
Started seeing him during the height of COVID, due to my Dr retiring. At the meet & greet I felt like I was being lectured/berated before I had even really said anything and then told that I might not like him after a while. It was the same with subsequent visits. The only reason I didn’t up and walk out was the shortage of doctors. I get that he is very into proper exercise & nutrition. But it doesn’t matter what you do he’ll still come down on you that you are not doing enough. I lost 20 lbs. his one and only comment was “did you do it deliberately.” He doesn't provide any positive feedback to help keep you moving in the right direction. There is little to no real discussion, he only wants to discuss what’s on his agenda. The only thing that exceeds his arrogance is his lack of bedside manner. Myself and the 2 members of my family have finally escaped this him.

Not the doctor for me
My experience with Dr Berardi was not a positive one. His approach seems to be guided by a belief that if you are not a vegan, you are killing yourself, and there is an unnecessary air of arrogance in his approach. As a healthy person, I did not expect to leave a wellness appointment stressed and anxious, but that is exactly how I felt after my appointment with him. He did not ask how I was or if I had any specific concerns, but proceeded to make judgements and recommendations based solely on a few slightly elevated lab numbers and the meals I’d had the day before. It was a very impersonal and one dimensional approach in my case, so my first appointment will also be my last with him.

Dr. Berardi is very knowledgeable and caring.
I have been Dr. Berardi’s patient for the past three years and have the utmost respect for his knowledge, directives, personal understanding, and humility. His focus on a preventive approach to medicine via the use of proper nutrition and lifestyle changes have made a huge difference in my clinical profile. I strongly recommend him and wish him many years of health so that he can help as many patients as possible!

Anti-Semitic comments, hostile attitude
I wish there was a rating lower than one star. This doctor should come with a warning label: DO NOT USE. After a negative experience with another primary care physician, I made an appt with Dr Berardi at the suggestion of Summit Health Patient Relations. From the moment he walked in he was hostile, and clearly not interested in taking me on as a patient. He barely asked me any questions about myself, my health, or my concerns, and instead, after asking about my meals for one day declared that my diet was 'the problem'. It culminated in him saying, "I don't mind treating you. I would treat HITLER. I don't care'. At that point I walked out of the appointment, shocked, offended, and disappointed. I will not use Summit Health for primary care in the future.

Worst bedside manner of any PCP I've had in my life. Judgmental and contradicted the treatment of ALL my specialists (thereby putting me in the middle). He even took his mask off during our appointment in the middle of a PANDEMIC! One appointment was enough for me - looking for a new doctor this year.

I knew that my primary doctor at the Summit Medical Group was going to retire in June of this year (2020). In early January I had a bad cold and set up an appointment at the patient portal with Dr. Berardi. Dr. Berardi was incredible. Not only did he show great concern for my health, but he was also very easy to speak with at this appointment. I never felt rushed, and he asked if I had any other questions. The Summit Medical Group is a very large practice and when I received a letter from my primary doctor who was retiring, he recommended any doctor at the practice but specifically named three doctors that he himself would be comfortable going to, Dr. Berardi was one of those doctors. It’s rare to find a doctor that combines such personal touches and care for a patient as a person with

My primary care doctor for the past 20+years recently retired & I was searching for a new primary / internal medicine doctor that was knowledgeable, caring, reliable, & trustworthy. I believe I have found that with Dr. Richard Berardi at Summit Medical Group. Dr. Berardi and his staff were courteous, prompt and very professional -- especially MaryAnn and Alyssa, the phlebotomist. Their office was very clean and organized and I felt safe there. Given the situation with Covid, it is very hard to find doctors willing to see you in person instead of telemedicine. Not only was I able to have an in person appointment with Dr. Berardi, but he took 1 hour out of his busy schedule to make sure he could help me with my recent health issues, educated me on proper diet and cleaner living, as well as, personally helped me get an in-person appointment with the GI department head. Dr. Berardi was very responsive to my inquiries and followed up after my test results came back.
