I have seen Dr. Cooke twice and both instances were incredibly frustrating with one bordering on harmful. The first time I saw Dr. Cooke, I had a suspected UTI, which I have had before, but Dr. Cooke performed a pap smear on me (my very first one) without any warnings about what he was going to do. It was a shock to all of a sudden have a speculum enter me, and feel swabs taken that were painful. The second time I saw Dr. Cooke was for mouth ulcers which he told me were a problem for my dentist not him, and that I shouldn't rinse with saltwater because I was making them worse. He did not tell me that the mouth ulcers could be related to my Crohn's disease as a result of a severe flare, and that salt water could be helpful. He dismissed all of my concerns and acted as though I was making a big deal out of nothing. As a person with chronic illness who knows their body, this was insensitive and frustrating.

Frustrated Patient – Apr 08, 2025

He went into autopilot. He literally gave the same, canned, silliness he clearly gives EVERY PATIENT (facepalm) “oh you must workout! Your heart rate is so LOW!” (Um yeah my resting heart rate ALWAYS FOR THE LAST 30 yrs straight runs 90-plus, because I DON’T workout!!! (Facepalm) just stupid autopilot. Just because he used to teach kids the physical exam doesn’t mean he’s actually paying attn during it. Not. Good. I was woefully underwhelmed. He also made a couple disparaging comments about my anatomy & about healthcare screenings I had to FIGHT to advocate for myself to get. This is not good. The state of healthcare today, SMH. He did not listen. I will likely not return to this doctor. I felt like part of a model-T on a conveyor belt, not a human

Refused to See Me - Late because Foot Injury
Got turned away at my scheduled appointment because I was 10 minutes late. Keep in mind, I have a boot on my foot from an injury. Was told I was allowed to be 15 minutes late.

I’ve never written a review before, but as a mother of teenage daughters, I feel compelled to share our experience with Dr. Richard Cooke at UCLA Health in Burbank. I had taken my 16 year old to see Dr.Cooke because our regular doctor was unavailable and she needed a physical in order to be able to participate in school. While I have no complaint of him as a physician, Dr.Cooke CLEARLY has very limited capability of communicating with young women-especially regarding weight. Of course we acknowledge the importance of being blunt, but even the most brilliant insight is absolutely worthless when conveyed with a complete insensitivity that feels almost cruel. Needless to say, we won’t be going back.
